[REQ-LOGO & ICON] For Escape Artist - $50

Hi

I have been asked to help a friend build his new site. He is a sideshow performer, sword swallower and escape artist. His videos can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/user/Dstraitjacket

His current (about to be redesigned!) website is here: http://www.davidescapes.com/

He has had sometime off performing (18 months) due to a nasty injury and is updating everything to re-launch his career. With that in mind a new look logo + icon (perhaps something taken from a logo feature) is the start of that process.

Type of Contest : LOGO and ICON Design
Prize : $50
Contest End Date & Time : 9.00PM GMT : 4th April 2011
Size Requirements : None
Color Requirements : Go with reds, blacks, whites, greys.
Style : Classy but edgey!

Vector preferred.

The logo will obviously feature in the header, the icon on the footer and elsewhere. Please bear this in mind when sizing. I will give more guidelines and direction as ideas come. But would prefer to see peoples own thoughts and initial designs first.

Thanks for the designs so far, not really seeing anything that jumps out yet. But its early days obv.

Soheil, your 1st design is the better of the two. The second is really unsuitable, sorry. But please keep trying though

Gooddesigner. I like the basic idea of the icon, I would really like to see it fleshed out more though.

Just to note, the logo is what is of most importance, the icon can be an element of the logo which is turned into an icon at the end. I would like people to focus on the logo side mainly.

Given that this is quite an interesting one, and that the money is a little higher than the usual $25 - $30 people are offering I was hoping that there would be a little more interest. Maybe it's coming Also, I have a great record of paying designers here fast and often with a bonus for great work. So please submit work with confidence.

A couple of notes:

1) Its not 'slideshow artist', lol. The words you can associate with the logo are: 'sideshow performer, sword swallower and escape artist'

However the only really important words are the name, David Straitjacket

Also. I am really against designers auto-removing earler designs. These designs help to develop what worked and what didn't. Without the earlier 'rejected' or altered designs as a reference point I feel the final work will not be as good as it could be. Remioving designs that were not chosen at the end is fine, but taking them down straight away is very bad for the customer. If it keeps happenening I will consider not chosing anyone who has done it, regardless of how good their finished product is.

That message was clearly directed at me apart from the mockery made at the message delivered to the logo. But if you say that my earlier design is "completely unsuitable" then whats the point of keeping it there! Can you answer that? What's your intention here? What kind of a message are you trying to tell us here? According to me sounds completely preposterous...

Bear in mind that there are members along with guests who are visiting this thread - chances are very high that our designs can be stolen so its safe for us to remove them if NOT required at the very instance.

Moderators please take a look into this.

Clarification

As designers own full copyrights to their unique designs they do have the right to remove them from a contest. Once a design is removed it is considered disqualified or retracted. Designs that were removed after a contest holder deemed them not the right feel, still count as a submission even though they were not liked.

We do encourage designers & contest holders to work together in order to meet their goals through quality feedback and inspiration. While it is nice for other designers to see what direction a CH is preferring by the previous submissions, it is still the right of the copyright holder (designer) to retract their designs.

Added note: NO logo designs should be using copyright protected clipart / stock images, as it is a violation of most their user agreements to be used in a Brand / Trademark. If this should happen, and a ch or designer detects it, please inform a moderator so we can take necessary action. An individual can NOT claim full copyrights on a derivative of someone Else's copyright.

I am simply asking designers to leave designs up until the end of the contest, I don't think that this is unreasonable at all. After all I am commenting on what I like and don't like in order to provide guidance to all designers.

I do not think it would be a breach of the rules to not choose a designers work on the basis outlined above. I didn't even say I would definatly do this. Just that it would form part of my final decision. I don't see how you could possibly take issue with that Soheil.

Also, that message was directed at both the people who posted designs so far, not just you. Both designers removed designs. As well as for anyone posting in the future. You have totally over-reacted to both that comment, and my message. In the design where you took offence to my response, you posted the name, alongside of the shelf clip art of a boy with his balloon. Very very far off the brief. 'Completely unsuitable' was polite imo.

Anyway, I don't want to get involved in a flame war. There is no point

Keep those designs coming guys, and please (pretty please) leave them up for a while.

Thanks for the entry. I think it feels a little too 'old school' maybe? Rather than slick, modern and edgy. Sorry if that is a bit vague! Good start though.

As for images, I would suggest sticking too handcuffs and swords if you are using emblems etc. Straitjackets and wotnot seem a little harder to represent in an easy to understand way.

For guidance I asked him to collect some logos he liked the look of. He sent eight that are in the below album.

So, we are looking at something modern, slick. With a limited colour pallet, 2 - 3 colours tops.

I like the concept, but I would really want to see it sharpened up a fair bit. Simplicity and impact is key here I think

The 1st one (with border) is getting closer. It is a much more simple concept. I am not really keen on the font, but a sharp font, rather than a complex one is certainly preferable.

Thanks for your entry. It is a good start but I think a fair bit more needs to be done with the lettering. For images, icons ect I really want to avoid being too colour heavy. Rather focusing on small colour ranges, and sharp design.

This is the leader so far imo. Much closer to the brief than anything else.

I like the idea of the icon a lot. It doesn't clearly show the idea of sword swallowing, escapology etc though. Not sure if something needs bringing into it to do that. Maybe so and maybe not. Really can't tell.

I would love to see some different versions of this. With other fonts, similar icon ideas ect. Basically playing around with the basic idea as it stands and seeing what emerges.
