Didn't think I would be posting in dis sailz thread again at all...

desu desu, so life has gotten busy 4 me. Domaining has been something I've only but forgotten due to irl. I haven't even kept up with renewals and am just "hoping" that registrars email me reminders.

But I see that the formula still works. Stats work... etc. etc.... so even if our emotions and minds and energies aren't in domaining... sailz still happen...

Bout half an hour ago, this just happened:

at first, I was happy to see a sail! But then sad that it was undersold (at first thought)... but hten I checked NB and saw that "verse" suffix domains really haven't sold that high lately... so i'm fine ^_^

i mean, smashverse was 10k... and so idk. Maybe it could've sold for more.... but this is what I priced it as, so ... yeah. Besides, I checked this thread's latest page and everyone is posting $100 sailz lol... so yeah... i think given the current economy and every1 underpricing.... i can't really feel bad :D

The facts:

Bought for $11 (and the renewal/transfer fees) from Tower (GD Closeouts)... in Nov 2018...

Transfer-renewed to epik and NC.. so costs to keep it was probably like less than $18.

I had received a price request on Afternic on 3/7/22... but I've been ignoring those as Imadoer pointed out that they're basically insignificant. Now I wonder if the buyer was the same one who made the price request...

I think price requests are a good indicator of what to keep in your portfolio.

Anyway, yeah so DAN will soon take its 9% commission... but given the onboarding and maintenance costs, nice profit, imo.

So this sail kind of goes against the "2.5 years and sail" rule... because it's about 3.5 years. But if it was 2018 before metaverse, would you have bought it? Nope. So that's probably why it didn't sell until meta came out.

I bought it because Fast///verse sounds like a cool brand for some kind of music thingy ^_^...

Given that the domain sold less than a year from when metaverse launched... I think the 2.5 year-rule still applies because most domains you would buy already have a target industry/product.

There is something very important I need to add regarding my sales and domain sales in general.

This comment is an exception, I apologize but it's too important so I'm posting here to make sure everyone that needs to see it will see it. Keeping it as short as possible.

There are certain disillusioned domainers who are spreading FUD around, like in this particular thread. Like domaining is over, or gonna end soon. Like we're already on the precipice... and so on.

All BS.

Don't believe this dumb stuff. I mean you don't need too much brain to see this clearly.

I need to tell you what is really going on before you start dumping your names or doing anything stupid. It's just like they said in year 2000, that internet has gone bust once the dotcom bubble has burst. Internet not only survived, but it has grown into what we see today. And it's still in its infancy.

As a person who has grown with is and always worked in IT, I can tell you, with the AI and virtual and decentralized and WEB3 or WebX and everything, tech is barely starting.... and it will evolve into much better. So are domains, and the demand for them is, and will be ever increasing.

Domains are here to stay. Just as COMs are here to stay, and gTLDs are here to stay as well, and perhaps crypto is here to stay etc. It's an evolution, it has its declines and corrections, but it is based on MORE demand not less.

There is far more demand in domains than before, and supply is really limited, not abundant. The registrations are growing not declining. Just like real estate, we are more people but land is limited so the prices increase although in rare times they might decrease a bit. Domaining is growing as well; not decreasing. It's just having a correction right now, together with the tech market and overall global economy slowdown due to obvious reasons.

Domains are the real estate of the Internet. Everything works through domains. Keep this in mind.

Saying this ends or whatnot is like saying land on Earth suddenly has no value OR that it doesn't even exist anymore. Such a dumb thing to say; whoever says such things doesn't understand domains. Whoever says tech has gone bust, hasn't learned anything from history, nor they understand economy or tech in general.

What we are seeing right now is just a market correction. It's temporary, although it might be difficult. It will take a bit of time (few years), but then growth will start again. It always does.

Yes it's a downtrend, but while it puts pressure on sales it has good side effects as well: Market maturity.

Some domainers will see their sales gone low or even disappearing, but those who are great in this field will continue to see plenty of profit and do well through such times, or even better. Note, I am one of these fortunate people, see my reported sales; but reason is I don't believe in such things but it makes me wanna be better. I work harder than before and dared myself to become better as such times demand.

What happens now is market getting consolidated. It's a time of maturity and consolidation. This happens in economy all the time during market corrections. Markets get mature and solid businesses remain and thrive. Those who don't know what they are doing, nor put the extra effort in, will be taken out of course.

It only depends on you which path you will take from now on.

Many inexperienced domainers may be wiped out or see little to no profit, but best domainers will grow even better and will acquire great names and continue to make sales.

You have to take it as a challenge, a challenge for yourself to become far better and still make good money even in a downtrend, during a market correction. That's how you do it. Be prepared for it and get better, far better than before.

Note, although I pulled my domains from SH, this sale came in somehow. And I'm going to honor it, still money in the bank. Plenty of'em more domains where this came from.

Edit: I'm still surprised nobody picked it when it dropped, so I hand regged it. It's a very good name, although not in high thousands; but still very good.
