Removal of private registration of my domain at GoDaddy ?

I have a domain with godaddy, I received a message from them that private registration is will be removed from my domain, after calling them I was informed that all domains with the same extension are going to lose private registration.

I was informed that to keep my info private I have to cancel my registration and lose the domain, or transfer it to another registrant but in order to transfer it my info will become temporarily public.

How legit is this practice? Im not an expert but that looks to me like an atrocious service and practice. If its not legit is there any organization I can call? Domain expires next year.

Customers who already have Uniregistry domains registered in their GoDaddy accounts will manage them as usual in their account interface. This will link to Hexonet’s backend.

The only difference customers might see is that they can no longer have Whois privacy on their Uniregistry domains.
