afternoon,

was just wondering. If I go onto (for example) godaddy, and search for a domain, but do not purchase it immediately, is there anything to stop godaddy looking through their search logs, and snapping up any domains not purchased?

No there isn't. I think they have better things to do.

More reason to BUY BUY BUY. Haha.

I don't think they have better things to do. I would not be surprised if this is happenning but no one has caught on yet. I don't think anyone would catch in unless it leaked out form within the industry. Something like this would be kept hush-hush. Probably just as much as Google algorithm is kept hush-hush.

sure registars could do that, but you have to understand the massive amount of searches they get, they would rather keep good domains from dropping for theirselves than dig through tons of search logs to find a single domain... It is ususally domainers who get the same idea who register domains your intrested in.

Just never wait, as soon as you find a good domain register it!

My thoughts exactly...
I use Godaddy's bulk checker to sift through (sometimes) thousands of domains per week. I don't think GD would waste their time sifting through millions of domains just to find a few "gems".
Now, Namepros on the other hand... ;) :hehe:

hmmm.... all good points.

not sure it helps while i'm waiting for my pay cheque to clear, and i have no cash to buy a few (what i consider...) kick-ass names that i found today!

Happened to Me

This very thing has happened to me 5 times -- always the next day, always at Network Solutions !! I won't mention the names of the 5 different domains. I have stopped searching at Network Solutions. I don't think its them, but my guess is that they have customers who they must notify when NS sees certain names being researched. One of the ones taken, that I went back to buy the next day was taken by a Brazilian company. Too much to just be coincidental.

sorry to hear dat Dana.. either the names are really nice names or you might have mention to someone u know.. it happen to my fren as well.. wanted to register a domain name.. told one of his frens during a tea session.. the next thing u know 2 days later someone registered n posted some photos albums n coincidently it happens to be a malaysian as well.. at least if its another country then the Coincidence rate wud not be too high but same country among so many around the world?!? so its hard to argue whether its just coincidence or not.. so keep it to urself..find a reliable domain name availability checker n reg it immediately b4 someone regged it..

i understand how u feel as i did experienced , my domain being registered by someone else because i procrastinated a few days.. i dint tel anyone so it my fault or the domain name checker..
