I have been scammed by a bad registrar they stole my domain in a very cloak and dagger way. Legally they are 100% right because their terms of service says they are always right.

But is there anything that can be done about a registrar that is malicious towards his customers but all within the ramification of the law?

I have been taken with the stupidest scam ever. They changed the expiry date of their service it showed my website registration expires at later date than it really does. Fool that i am i trusted the info even though it seemed odd. I get spam from them about web specials i thought it was one of them freebies that my service was prolonged???..I was expecting renewal e-mail warnings but they did not come. Before the registration expired i went to log in and found that i could not log in and based on when the website was registered (whois info) i was shocked to find that the expiration date was now set back to the real date and that i was 2 months overdue for "rent"...just like nothing had happened all my proof is gone in thin air!!! the only proof was on their website but my account does not work i cant log in and i bet everything is kosher now...

im not mentioning the name of the registrar so as not to sound like i have an agenda...is there anything i can do? i cant complain to ICAAN about this their type of help is useless here the registrars terms of service say he is right i was "overdue" and my premium domain is now sold and somebody has the money in his pocket.

Unfortunately relying on courtesy reminders is a good way to lose domains, not to mention that E-mail is not as reliable as it once was...
Also, if it is a .com/.net name the registrar will usually renew it provisionally with the registry when the name expires. The registry date then equals registrar date +1 year which can be confusing. If the name is not renewed during the grace period the registrar can drop the name within 45 days and get a refund from the registry.

If you could state the name in particular and the registrar perhaps we can look into this more in depth and advice accordingly.

i have to say, the domain in question must be worth a fortune for the reg comp to do this,

i mean lets look at it objectively,

you say the reg comp accessed your data, pushed your renew date back and then after it expired, put it back to the right date and sold it on.

you then logged into your account only to see it was all a big scam and your domain had actually gone to someone else.

now, lets see here, a domain reg company, risking there rep for 1 domain name, cause if this was a regualr thing for them, we'd already know who they are, this must be the domain name of legends, we must be talking millions of $$$ for this domain.

i wonder what it was??

could it be, that you relied on them to tell you the expirey was coming up, they didnt (because they dont have too) the domain dropped, someone else snapped it up and now your looking for a scape goat??

am i close???

Report to the attorney general, sue them, whatever. But it's your burden to
show there was malice involved.

Sorry to read what happened to you, though.
