Registered domains database or whatever that would be called

There used to be a site where you could enter your domain and it would return a complete list of similar domains that were registered.
For example if I owned xyz.com
The results will come out as

hotxyz.com
bestxyz.com
nicexyz.com
123xyz.com
abcxyz.com

So it would become easy for us to contact those people and show them our domain. Can you please tell me the url of that site?
P.s. I am not looking for a domain suggestion tool. There are plenty of them out there. I am looking for a tool which shows similar registered domains.

"example.com"
By the way, xyz.com are those who own .xyz or vice versa. :p

There are a bunch of websites out there which do that. To answer the question in your initial subject, zone files are the real databases which hold all currently registered domains.

All these websites most likely do the same thing..the zone file is stored in the database and when you type in your domain it checks for similar domains which are in the zone file (meaning they're currently registered)
