RegisterFly Update March 31

March 31st, 2007 by Paul Levins
This is an update on the termination of RegistrFly as an ICANN accredited registrar.

As was previously advised ICANN sent a notice of termination to RegisterFly effective 31 March 2007

Under the agreement RegisterFly can initiate arbitration challenging the termination.

RegisterFly has decided to do that and has notified ICANN.

That means the termination has to be stayed by at least an additional thirty days.

Consequently there will be no bulk transfer to another Accredited registrar until further notice.

This clearly does not help registrants. It is another example of RegisterFly putting its own interests ahead of its customers.

ICANN is committed to pursuing RegisterFly under the terms of the Agreement.

ICANN has filed suit in Federal Court in the Central District of California to require RegisterFly to turn over all registrant data and to require them to provide updates every 48 hours and open up their books for audit. This will assist in making sure the data is accurate when a bulk transfer does occur or if the data is otherwise not available from the operators of RegisterFly. ICANN

RegisterFly is still required to assist registrants who want to transfer to another Registrar.

ICANN will provide more updates as information becomes available.

The law is a slow turning wheel and only protects scum like registerfly and the others that use its complexities to so rudely rip people off.
Another month of uncertainty.
Where will this all end?

I just got an auth-code email about one of my domains (enom) and an additional email from registerfly:

PLEASE CONTACT ENOM IMMEDIATELY IN REFERENCE TO THESE DOMAINS
AT
(425) 274-4500
[email protected]
www.enom.com

example.com xxxxxxxxxxxxxx (AUTHOCODE)

WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE DELAYS AND INCONVENIENCES,

CORDIALLY,

YO @ REGISTERFLY CUSTOMER SERVICE

So things are happening, it seems.

Looks like this will drag on for some time. One month will lead to two months and before you know it a whole year has passed. The courts can be so slow.

Actually, I am somewhat relieved by this announcement. It will give me some additional time to transfer some domains away before I'm forced into a bulk transfer. :)

Glad someone is starting to have some luck, all I get is more of this.
Transfer failure report from slowdaddy.
Dear M** *****,

You recently purchased a domain registrar transfer for:
W********S.NET

However, the current status of the above domain name(s) is:
clientUpdateProhibited, clientTransferProhibited

Domain names in this status cannot be transferred. Please
contact your current registrar to resolve this issue.

Once the status has been corrected, follow the steps below to
re-initiate the transfer.

ICANN closed the ability to comment on the blog due to the nasty response the got. Go figure...

This is ridiculous. I'm not sure why they even bothered giving 15 days notice and now a chance for appeal?? RegFly breached the contract, which means they lose all rights granted within the contract, simple as that. ICANN needs to grow a pair.

I tried transferring 6 domains from RegFly to GoDaddy. ALL 6 were denied. I think I'll just let ALL of my domains there expire :(

I just remembered that if Enom is the actual holder of a RegFly domain, I believe they'll push the domain into Enom's control panel. Dunno if they still will, though. I'd have to reread their email to me.

An unknown number of Australian companies and consumers have lost their Web sites -- and renewal fees -- hosted by a US-based company.

Web sites hosted by US-based Web host RegisterFly have been disappearing in dribs and drabs over the past year. The domains are "parked" -- generally when they have expired, but attempts to renew the domain by paying the fee mysteriously fail.

You're screwed, just as I was when facing the same problem.

I have yet to face a problem on moving a domain out. I even bought 20 3 char .net's from someone and I transfered them directly to Moniker within a week with no problems.

Transfer is simple.
1. Unlock domain
2. Get Auth code
3. Transfer domain

Not that tough really.

Hmmm That might work. I tried moving mine to GoDaddy with no success, though.
