Today was a interesting day, on Godaddy the BuyDomains special auction ended and on NameJet many of the oversee names ended.

On godaddy buydomains listed about 150 domains, all real nice names and on namejet oversee had about 18 names again real nice stuff.

All had reserves and both sites bragged about "Great Reserves" and "Low Reserves".

On NameJet some auctions had 100+ bidders but on avg id say 60 bidders.

On GD many names had many bidders too.

But at the end, here is the results

Of the 18 names ended on NJ 1 reached reserve.
Of the 150 on GD 1 reached reserve.

The one that reached the reserve on NJ was truckers/com for a bit under 10k (estibot 125k for those who care).

For the most part, the reserves where not even remotely reasonable, but I understand many of the mega portfolio holders are realizing that most of the names they have are not even worth the renewal fee anymore so they will try to milk the good ones.

Many got very excited the other day at domainfest when Gary Vaynerchuk said that domain values regardless of extension will drop. Todays auctions should show 2 things, a) he's very right b) the sellers are out of touch with reality, hopefully the results today will inject some reality in them.

Next time please put in a title. I won't even look at what you wrote unless you create a meaningful title first.

You take it with a grain of salt, Gary is not a domainer. You have to understand speakers at events like this tend to say things to get attention. And look, he's getting it from domainers. Threads like this, blogs today, your basic link bait. Jason Calacanis said some crazy stuff back in 2008 at Affiliate Summit, got a lot of affiliates in an uproar. All kinds of conversation and links in to his site. Gary keynoted Affiliate Summit back in 2009. Said stuff like "swing more for the fences" but he was speaking to some people in that room that did better than him.

My experience is that when you put a reserve on your domain you will end up with less bids / less money that if you didn't. Probably in the mind of the bidders there is the " fine..the reserve is always so high I won't even bother "...

Exactly. All of those auctions could be sold. Greed is an issue. I wanted to bid on hagglers.com , but didnt.

Heritage Auctions was a huge flop yesterday in my opinion

The reserves once again do not take into account the current state of the industry, gradually the domain owners will accept the new reality but not before losing a ton of value.

Maximum ROI comes from an end user knocking on your door first, auctions don't achieve that unless you personally invite all the end users to the auction. Quality Domains+Patience=Maximum ROI
