I recently applied one of my 15 year old+ names to an online auction at one of the major auction houses.
I put a mere $4000 reserve on it, I have about $250 into the name after initial purchase and renewals since.....
They emailed me back accepting the name IF i removed the reserve entirely... The broker assured me that they get "alot more action" with the no reserves and it attracts more people...
Now 7 years ago I would have said "sure, no problem" but I had to pass. With the lack of money be exchanged in this industry it is too risky to put QUALITY names out there with no reserve no matter what venue..
Long story short this brokerage had there auction, about 60 names and not one single domain sold for more than a $1000.... if my time and focus were not tied up elsewhere I would have considered buying a few..
So the question is.... Would YOU trust your $5000+ domain at auction without a reserve?
