I received an email about a domain name of mine Find****.com from a Sedo agent representing a client. He said the client was willing to offer $500 for a quick sale or asked if I had a counter in mind.

The only condition was that the sale would be concluded through SedoMLS Promotion Network with whatever commission rates applying.

That being said, the domain name is perfect for an App that locates **** or an Ecommerce store that sells ****. Both products being billion dollar industries.

I believe the domain name may be worth upwards of $50,000 to the right buyer or $2500-5000 based on comparable sales of similar domains starting with Find. I thought about waiting a couple days to respond with a counter offer, but an initial offer of $500 seems like they are serious to me.

What do you all suggest?

Don't settle for less; and take your time...

If you believe the domain is worth $50k then reply with that offer.

Starting offer is good and they're using the Sedo broker to get the domain. Chances are they might have a bigger budget. You can always negotiate and sell for much more than $500 they offered. You get peanuts if you take the $500 offer (take away Sedo's commission and it's very low offer).

We cant tell you what we think the domain is worth. So just ask what you dare.

That's not a serous offer if it is a 50k domain.

The only thing that is certain (since we dont know the domian) is that they are begging you to counter.

Good Luck

It's impossible to appraise it without knowing what it actually is. You say comparable sales only show it to be worth 2,500-5,000 but believe it to be worth $50,000 instead.. I think you just answered your own question. It is likely if a deal is to work out with a serious buyer and if it is a good name it will end up more in the 2,500-5,000 range. But as they say, the name is yours and you can ask what you want. Sedo broker from my experiences usually indicates that they are at least serious buyers. There may be a good chance you guys can find a common price. Good luck.

How badly do you want to sell? That plays a pretty big role.

As you mentioned comparable sales for similar domains are between 2500-5000 so counter with something similar amount and wait n watch for next reply from sedo.

I do think it is worth more than the comparable sales which were not as specific or as profitable business models. I also offered the sales agent a bonus commission so let's see how it goes :D

Consider it is a broker contacting you on behalf of a potential end user. I would ask a few more questions about what the buyer wants the domain for to see who you are dealing with.

I thought about that and perhaps that is what I should have done. I may ask more questions depending on their answer. I didn't want to beat around the bush though, I feel like it's a valuable name and made them a counter offer.

Cannot believe no one mentioned this, regardless of what you get or don't... DO NOT pay them their fee, period. The buyer is responsible or no deal! If they want it they will pay, sedo charges too much and why should you take less AND pay a fee when they knocked on your door. Now saying that if they talk them up near full ask you could swallow that fee easier lol
