I just recieved a call :talk: today from the last registrant of Cuxy.com
He mentioned that he had the domain for 10 years and let it expire because of financial trouble. He then asked if he could have it back? I asked him why he did not just pay the $8.00 or whatever to renew the domain and for some reason that was too much money at the time for him. I did not want to speak at the time so I just asked him to email me. I got this domain a month ago and I get a call now? How do I politley tell him no?
Thanks

My guess, the reason why he contacted you a month after... He most likely got his Check from NetSol for the domain being sold at NameJet. :snaphappy:

Just tell him you are sorry, but the domain is just not for sale. Lesson Learned!

Don't answer him. He is just wasting your time by calling you.

Its a shame some people consider themselves business people.

When a business person makes a bad investment or does not invest and then finds out he/she missed the boat they move on. This person is a non businessman. Instead of respecting the domain business by offering to purchase a name he is like a baby thowing a tantrum, wah, wah, I want it now.

Most of us paid the price to own our names. I know for me I have glued my eyeballs to the screen, researching, going without certain things to pay for my investments in domains. Some whiner comes along and in a pitiful begger way whines he wishes he had kept the name and please give it back.

More than likley he is a trouble maker and if you do not give it to him he will cry and go wah wah to you and Godaddy or wherever the name is registered.

If he contacts you again and starts whining ask him where you can send him a binky or soothing toy.

** Are you 100% sure he was in fact the owner

** You did nothing wrong at all when you bought this name...

If it was the case that this person had and up and running site for their biz and forgot or whatever to renew I would be in talks to get the name back to them but...

This either smells of a scam and it wasn't really his or he just realised the value of these things...

I lost a couple LLLL.com domains that i owned which were pretty good ones, because I simply didn't keep good enough track of what I had. It was my fault.

One day I might make an attempt to get the domains back, but will offer fair market value. I don't expect someone else to pay for my mistake.

I can't find the bad words dictionary. Otherwise I would have linked you to it.

All you need is to recite it aloud whenever that guy calls you. :)

Because he is doing foolish stuff.

If the guy is offering to at least pay you for your costs, or pay fair market value I would listen. However, if he is looking for charity that is not acceptable.

as mentioned above, how do you know he is the previous owner?

BTW I Googled the phone number and its from Florida the address associate with the phone number he called from and left in his email points to a larger than average house with a nice pool. (Google satilite map) :snaphappy:

nice move. :)

I looked at archive.org. a few years ago the site offered design and webhosting. so the previous owner had to know about domain expirations and stuff like that.

I think a polit eNo would suffice; or maybe a mail like this (which i wrote to someone who was a previous owner and interested to buy it back)

Hi xxx,
I bought this one for the purpose of future investment into an insurance website (this word XXXXXXXX).
I have also started working on the design model of the same.
Although I did pay just $XXXX for it, I wouldnโ€™t be interested in selling it at a premium.
Sorry for the bother,
Best Regards,
xxx.

Tell him you bought this name for a specific project but if he/she was to make an offer that was significant enough now, than you'd consider selling.

It might have been too much money for him at that point of time but he didn't mention about right now :)

You all have some great info thanks for sharing.
And your right! If he got a piece of the NameJet sale from Networksolutions then that makes sense why he waited a month to call. It probably took some time to recive his share and after some thinking he decided to give the please let me have my domain back song. :$:

If I were you, I'd just say, "Sorry. The domain is not for sale."
At this point in time, there's no need to mention you bought it for development or whatever purpose.
If he's desperate for the domain, then he'll pester you some more with offers.

I've had someone sending me demanding emails for over a year on a generic name which is also in use by other people in other extensions, yet they never send me any kind of proof of why I should just give them my name.

(I have had it priced at under $2,000 all this time so they can't want it that bad) It makes more than it costs to keep so they're gonna have a very long wait.

If they don't start off with a polite email then I just ignore them....pests !

I've just lost one of my names by mistake, the registrar want $200 for me to renew it....no sense in whining about it..I have 2 choices, pay up or loose it.

If you don't stick to the registrars terms its more often than not - your own fault.
