question Rebuilding expired domain

Hi, I'm in the process of rebuilding an expired domain but I've become stuck on a point

Some of the existing links link to a PHP file/page

Eg. domain(.)com/shopping/shopping.php

But in wordpress it won't let me call the page or URL in that format (it replaces the '.' with '-' in the slug.

How should I proceed?

Should I just 301 the example URL above to a new page called domain(.)com/shopping

Or is something else advised?

It's convenient to backup the content with a tool like archivarix or waybackmachinedownloader and then work on it
