Guys/Gals,

I will be emailing my interview questions to Quinn first thing in the morning.

The interview will cover issues relating to both premium .tv names, Me.TV and the extension in general.

Quinn has promised to answer these question as soon as possible, maybe even as early as Monday before close of business, although she cannot guarantee this.

What she can guarantee is not to shy away from any questions I put to her. So along with some of the nice questions, there will be some tough questions too!!

If any of you have any questions, I ask one more time, please PM your questions for consideration.

Thanks

James

Hi Emil,

I would love too, but I think, due to the nature of the interview - ie - some tough questions, it would only be fair that DM get a chance to respond without leaving those questions hanging in the air.....

But once again, if you have anything you want me to ask, please PM me.

Hope you can understand where I am coming from.....

James

Ask her what when and where they are planning to advertise. What market share are they going for, and who do they see as their user base.

Follow up question. If they see the myspace crowd as the base, why do they expect someone to pay for something they can get somewhere else.

Next: When will Verisign and ENOM/Demand put out a joint statement clarifying who sets the pricing and what it is. In previous questions, Verisign points to ENOM/DM, and they point right back.

Finally: Carson seems to be doing nothing except having a page, why not get someone more mainstream, like Carmen Electra, to pimp the thing instead?

No disrespect James this is not toward you but if quinn daly posts threads here and then does not answer questions and instead waits for an interview from an industry blog then from now on Quinn I am treating your posts like Advertising for Demand Media and moving those threads to that section of the forum.

I've talked to Chris VP last couple of days and I attended the Reseller webcast. They are targetting within 3rd Q to implement the revenue share, of course no clear information at this time. We are now entering 3rd quarters, so any time soon.

That isn't advertising. That is just putting ads up.

I mean when are we going to see serious advertising FROM them?

The ONLY questions I have for Verisign and DM are concering RENEWALS. If I set on autorenewal should I be afraid? What should I expect? Can non premium price go to premium day of renewal etc? Can a premium that is 250 per year all of a sudden become 2K per year? Can we expect what we are paying now will continue? Is there a cap on maximum increase if there were to be an increase, not according to TOS? Since they hold Premium .tv hostage only at Enom.tv we are at there pricing mercy, because we cannot competitively shop for a lower price, and this to me is antitrust, imo. The whole thing that took place with Dallas.tv, which increase from 10K to 30K I think was nothing but pure GREED on DM's part and stopped an end user from purchasing. They troll NP threads now and when they see a purchasing trend immediately readjust their pricing accordingly. If this is the attitude then DM can shut a business down come renewal and I would find that as extortion in the highest form. This policy needs to be set publicly and not in an email from QD since an email with hold no water in court of law versus a TOS. The TOS needs to reflect their answer and an amendment needs to be sent to all holders regarding this addition. A positive documented answer, answering this question can change the momentum of .TV with those on the fence, domainers and investors alike. This needs to be CLEAR as Bahama water in order to aggressively move forward, imo. Beating the very people who are trying to raise awareness of the extension, (domainers and end users) is Jamestown style suicide. The statement needs to be made by DM and Verisign in a press release. If they cannot do it, it means only one thing to me, that Verisign and DM are hostile and we need to proceed with caution. It is true that most TOS are of a protective nature to the registrar to take back in case of an error but Premium .TV pricing is a new animal, imo because the stakes are considerably higher. In the end, we do not want a "He said She said" discussion. A TOS is created to end all doubts and it is my opinion that their TOS needs changing to reflect the special premium structure. So that is my question in a nutshell James.

Hi, I wanted to address this because I was considerably taken aback by this post. It has been my intention from the start to keep this group informed on the technology and marketing support Demand Media is building around .TV. I have posted several FAQs to this forum in an effort to provide information, not advertising. Equity78, I'm not sure what your intentions are here, and would welcome a direct converstation with you in an effort to clarify how I can best serve this forum. QD

Which part of PM me your questions (at least on three separate occasions) missed your attention.

Or are your questions just too good to escape public viewing??

eq,

Hey, no disrespect to you, as always, but I think you are being a little harsh there. I think she has contributed rather nicely over the last couple of months, given that I doubt namepros has been assigned to her as a top priority.

I disagree. I haven't seen too many of the key points being addressed by QD/DM

Well, I have PMmed, and always gotten the appropriate responses. Just sying, I've gotten value from her here.

Since you asked....

There are a lot of people who have serious questions about what, if anything, DM is doing to help us.

I do think the questions should be posted prior to you asking her, instead of just the ones you consider worthy of asking. That way, prior to you sending them, we all get a chance to see what is going to be asked. If we don't know, or get that chance, then the questions could be re-worded by you that makes them answerable with vague statements.

Understand, I am not by any means questioning your methods of interviews. What I am saying is that there has been enough pussy-footing around with DM about these issues, and the questions need to be very specific and formed to get very specific responses.

You, as a business man may ease up on the harshness of the questions in order to protect yourself from possibly burning this bridge. Again, perfectly reasonable.

Here in the states, we here politcal doublespeak, and softball questions from reporters looking to further their own interests instead of asking what is really on the minds of the people. Or in this case, the potential customers of DM.

So, James, I am not questioning your abilities. I am saying that if you do things privately like that without the chance for all the others that have questions to see if their needs are being met, then you could come back with an interview that is nothing more then the same fluff they have been feeding us.

Quite frankly, every time someone from DM gives us answers, the only thing it does is give more questions. So I for one would like a chance to see what is going to be asked so that I don't get my hopes up only to have more nonesense come back from them.

Nothing personal James, just the same frustration every one else has about a company that has done little to nothing to actually give us answers. This company is holding information hostage that is critical to our TV business plans, and it is time they stepped up and actually gave real honest answers.

Just as a devil's advocate, here, I would toss in a brief list of other companies that are holding company information hostage that is critical to your business.

Let's see, Microsoft should tell us in advance the names of all future window platforms, so that we can go ahead and register relevant domains and begin development. And where was Apple five years ago with telling us about iphone? Had I known Verisign's involvement in .tv ahead of time, I might have bought some stock. Dell would really help me out if they could give me their new computer platform designs a couple of years in advance. I mean, it doesn't do me any good to try and reg laptop.com or desktop.com or notebook.com or tabletpc.com if someone else gets to it first a couple years ahead of me. Do you know how much that lack of information has cost me? I should be a BILLIONAIRE but for lack of it.

Obviously, I am going overboard here, not to tick you off but to make a point: DM has no obligation to give us all of their intentions. In fact, from a business standpoint, the less they give out about specific business direction, the more flexible they can remain.

Some basic, key points, yes I think they have been remiss on, primarily the whole domain renewal cost structure. But a lot of their future plans, heck most of their people don't even know about it yet, IMO.

I don't think he is asking for specifics, I think he/we want to hear "We have a large development and marketing budget that is being used and is increasing every month" or "Your investments in the .TV extension has been very wise and you will see some great things coming soon"

No, I very specifically want to know the details and when they will release relevant, joint information press release with Verisign so that the questions are finally answered for all those that are afraid to get into tv because of the uncertainty.

That is my number one priority question, and should be everyone else's as well since it will decide the main future of tv as either an expensive hobby, or a growing business model.

Marketing plans and market areas would be nice, but I honestly think that DM is surprised at the lack of people buying the premiums as they likely considered it a no-brainer.

No disrespect James.......I do not question your abilities.......

Thanks for that nod of approval, but you do painfully clearly question my motives......burning bridges etc....

No offence taken....sure , why not..lets go out for a beer!!!

Instead of losing my cool with you, I will do my very level best to maintain my professionalism..

How long have you been around the .tv forum? How well do you know me? Can you point to one single thing as evidence that I would "fluff" up an interview?

Did you read my first interview with DM? Do you see any fluff there, if you do , point it out......

I got more PMS and emails about that interview than anything I have written to date......every one of them clearly pointing out that they were glad I asked the tough questions needing to be asked...

So I thank you kind sir for questioning my motives.....

As for me being the great decider as to what I willl or won't include in my Q&A, I started this thread to inform everyone that I was taking more unpaid time out of my day to get this Q&A, this is my Q&A and they will be on my terms.....

There is nothing stopping you from posting any question you want for Dm to answer in your own thread, indeed you have already posed a question or two in other threads, but, because I want to make sure that I address as many peoples concerns as posssible, I reach out and tell people to pm me their questions...

Instead yoiu questions my motives which is a/ offensive to say the least and b/ hypocritical given that not just a few days ago, in a thread that has since been removed, you stated that you had seen no evidence of me doing anything other than calling things as I see them....a straightshooter in other words......

Obviously you change your opinions on a whim......

Finally, if you are just a little patient, when the Q&A does get released, you will be in no doubt as to what my motives are, it will be plain to see by which compass I use as a guide in my journalistic endeavours........

I have notice that you recently have become more and more offensive in what you have to say.......I am totally mystified as to why you feel you are so well qualified to behave this way........

If Quinn comes here to the NP forum, why do we need a side/private interview to get our questions answered? I'm not against AllT doing an interview, but the questions we are all concerned about (rev, rev and rev) should be answered here. Right?

Why should AllT be the gate keeper of knowledge where DM is concerned?
(AllT the messenger sent forth on a perilous journey to the high preistess Q, who will interpret the message from the oracle at Delphi, erhh um, DM I mean).

To use Showbiz analogy from above, we don't even need reporters so we can ask questions ourselves. In some cases I can see the need to weedout irrelevant or concerns specific to one or two, but come on, that's ridiculous in this case. There are only TWO questions everyone keeps asking and everyone here, Q included know it:

1) How and When are they going to do more promote this?

2) When will we get rev sharing and how will it work?

We get nothing but the run-around on these two questions, and we don't need any mediator to ask these for us!

DM, What is going on re:1) and 2) ??? Plan to sensitive to let the Soviets catch wind of it? Then explain those concerns.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I can't see any reason not to answer those questions other than we wouldn't like the answer...

BTW: This is no critizism of AllT, I appreciate any effort and progress you make to getting us the answers to 1) and 2).
