Questions about domain backordering

I would really like to put my hands on a domain which is about to register. A month ago I did the silly mistake to trust godaddy with the backordering but after I have done some research I have realized that I have done nothing.

The domain that I want to acquire is currently registered with EASYDNS TECHNOLOGIES, INC. (easydns.com) and is going into PendingDelete state in a few days. I have checked and the .co, .net extensions are both taken, however there is no active website on them. I could say that the domain is not of extraordinary value (two dictionary words for a medium popularity keyword), although it could really benefit a project of mine.

I have read lots of articles about backordering and everyone seems to suggest Pool, Snapnames and Namejet.

The total cost of having all 3 chase the domain for me is about $180-$200 which seems to be fair.

My question is:
Will they charge me or put the amount on hold on my credit card? Say, if I had just $70 on the card would I be able to have a backorder at each service? (I am asking this because thanks to GoDaddy I hardly trust registrars with money ...)

Should I know anything else before I enter the world of "backorders"? I plan to snatch up another name in february so I could use some advice from those who do this on a high scale.

I appreciate your guidance.

You only get charged if they capture the domain for you, or if you win the auction should there be multiple bidders.

With that said It's been so long since I first created my accounts at these sites, but I believe you always have to have a valid credit card in their respective systems to participate in their auctions.

Pool DOES place a preauth according to this

Not sure about the others.

There's no cost to place a backorder. If the domain becomes available, they try to get it for you. If they get it, that's when you get charged.

Just keep in mind that Snapnames ( and Moniker consequently ) haven't a nice reputation around. They have the worst support in the history of internet..so pay attention
