I own the .com of a famous stock newsletter which is taken almost in every extension.
The name is generic something like WealthyInvestor. The .com was registered months before the stock news letter started. I also read now that the name of their newsletter is TM'ed according to the company(although I cannot find any reference)

Would it be a wise idea to contact them if they want the .com?

Maybe.

If you contact them to say you're offering it for free (yeah, like that'll happen
here), then they might be generous. If you contact to ask if they're curious in
buying it from you, it could create cybersquatting issues.

Did you have any insider knowledge about the newsletter? Though the domain was registered months before the newsletter started, it takes time to get this going. So if you had insider knowledge and if they can prove it, that could hurt you. If it was a fluke and you had no knowledge, proceed with caution and make sure you don't change the site and compete with them.
