Dear NamePros users,
Yesterday I had an interview at a telecom company. Before going to the interview I conducted a quick research regarding the company's business strategy, services, products, competition and etc. I noticed that the company is using an awkward domain name for its official website. I accessed WHOIS and guess what? The domain, which contains the company's official name is registered by the competitor company.
Unfortunately, I cannot disclose the name of the company but my example will explain the situation. The company with the awkward domain name is a branch of a multinational company which is listed on London Stock Exchange and Frankfurt Stock Exchange as ***telecom. The parent company has its official website which includes the full name of the company. The domain name was registered in 2000. Moreover, the .com is registered by someone in Korea, ,net is registered by a Japanese guy. Lets assume UKTelecom is a publicly traded company with the website UKTelecom.uk. Can I go ahead and register UKTelecom.com. .net, .fr, .es and etc? I am still trying to figure out this mess. Would you please share your thoughts about this case.
Thank you,
