So I bought a domain with a page rank and it just transferred to my GoDaddy account. I listed it and parked with sedo, and when I checked again there was no page rank. Did transferring ownership, or changing the name servers to sedo parking drop the page rank?
(And yes I did do the info:xxxxxxx.com check and the page rank was legit... i think)

any help would be appreciated

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

PageRank is updated by Google at random increments depending on when they run their update and the site quality / if it's in the list. Being as the content changed, and went to Sedo Parking, you potentially lost a lot of pages. You still keep your backlinks though, which (I may be wrong) I think is a contributor to PageRank scores.

Also, the seller could have had the site redirected if you didn't check it out beforehand, to a higher ranked site, causing the site to have a fake PageRank (the PR of the site they're redirecting to).

Go to Ahrefs.com and punch in the site to see if you can find some past data.

Thank you for the link, it clarifies everything. One more thing, how long can you usually keep the pr before you start losing links (is it enough time to market and sell the domain to someone who can re-build the content?).

also is there any way to keep the pages and content if i buy from godaddy and not the previous owner?

I think that you can't do this, you bought only the domain name, website content is still owned by previous domain owner.

Set up 301 and 404 redirects to your homepage or another script based on keywords and content that you might be able to find in a web archive [Wayback Machine]

If the previous owner gave you the content to the old site, just upload the files to your new site and setup any databases that were in place and you should be good.

You could also build upon your PR by getting more backlinks and doing some other SEO stuff.

If it was changed due to update in page rank from Google then you are not going to get it...

And if there is no activity on your site then of course you are going to lose page rank.
