Question for the more seasoned Domainers

What are questions us newer domainers should be able to answer before we even purchase a domain?

I guess I want to know a few matrices that I should know before you would advise a newby like me to make a purchase of a domain.

Hello

I would say

1. Can you afford it

2. What are you going to do with it

3. Can you afford what you are wanting to do with it

4. Is the name legal to buy (i.e is there a tm that may incur you a loss)

5. Are you prepared to make a loss should this name not perform or live up to your dream



Always double check it is the correct spelling
If traffic is stated remember not all traffic is real
If possible look at a members TR (this is not always 100% true but someone with good history and reputation goes a long way)

Thank you Michelle, I have an unrelated question, but don't want to start another thread. While searching for ideas on domain names, I read this on Domain Sherpa: "Niche jobs such as HealthcareJobs.com, MedicalJobs.com, BrokerJobs.com, NursingJobs.com, and BusinessJobs.com are going to command high premium prices."

Would you consider this to be true? If so, I found websites with lists of jobs and professions and adding "job" to end of them, I found they weren't already registered. How would I research this further, to see if this could be a viable domain to purchase? I went on the keyword tool on google to see if people are searching those terms and some returned a good amount of searches for them.

What else could I do to research further? Thanks!

Hi again

Unfortunately domainers are unable to bottle up and pass on experience as much of it comes from past mistakes/learning/lots of reading and.. gut feeling..

This site has a wealth of infomation and if you take time to read, there are priceless posts..

I would not recommend you to buy every profession domain with the word "job" at the end. Buy one or two first and see if you are able to sell those. Remember, renewal fees add up fast!

Right, I only wanted to know if it were a good idea if they had also attached some decent search returns from google's keyword tool?
