Question concerning donation of domain name, please advise

I have the domain name tributetoveterans.com It is parked on Sedo and listed for sale. I have been contacted by a Church group...they contacted me not through Sedo, but directly via my email address..(which is fine)..here is the email...

"Our church is currently seeking available domains to host a site which will pronounce our gratitude (and the thanks of other churches/individuals) to veterans of the United States. We noticed that you have parked the domain www.tirbutetoveterans.com in May of this year, but have not established a site. If your intentions of setting up a site with this domain has changed, would you consider releasing it for our church to register? Thank you for your consideration".

It is from Christian Heritage Church and the web site they gave is www.jesusmyrefuge.org.

I want to sell the name....Frankly I don't care if they are a church organization or not..I don't know anything about this particular organization, but most of them ( IMHO) will swindle you out of your last buck all in the name of the Lord...if they can...so anyway...my opinions on that aside..I would like opinions from others as to what you would do in this situation...I don't want to sound like a greedy domain squatter..but I guess that's what it sounds like...

I guess that the site will be used to solicit donations with a percentage going to the Church and the recipients having to kneel a bit.
My own opinion is that the only people you should donate the site to would be directly to a genuine vets organisation.
I would feel uneasy selling the name to the highest bidder to cream off $$ for such a cause.

A couple of things:

1) Good news, www.tirbutetoveterans.com isn't a site (The typo folks haven't gone jack-crap-crazy yet )
2) Have you made a dime off of parking the domain? Why not sell it for a few bucks on the cheap to an organization that might do something worthwhile with it?
3) OR even better; why not just donate it to any deserving verteran's organization? I won't advise you on any tax implications, but it might be worth looking into.

Also, I couldn't find a sedo listing for the name.

IamAllenShore, I stated that it wasn't a site..or that i hadn't done anything with it...anyway, i don't know why it is not listed on sedo..i checked that myself...it regged through godaddy and i have it parked at sedo but it is not showing in my listings...i'll have to check on that...I don't mind selling it cheap or even donating it to a legit vet. org.. but I just didn't know about the church org....

http://www.whois.sc/tributetoveterans.org . I do wonder how they came accross you.
You can always google them for more info, but I don't know where "church reviews" would be for such a small group (apparently small). http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...D:en&q="Christian+Heritage+Church"+experience

Yes, I agree...might be a better fit for the .org...anyway, I have made my mind up...I have no problem donating to a legit. vet organization..but I have no intentions of donating to this church...My guess is they may use it to tie in with something they are peddling...to solicit donations for their own cause..which I have no intentions of supporting. Of course, I may be wrong..but doesn't matter...thanks for suggestions...

You could always just let them use the name, like you remain the owner, just change the dns to point to their server/site. If they do anything funny simply change the dns, just another option/path you could take.

I'm never shy about marketing to Charities or Organisations.

I might sound like a bit of a Bar-Steward but if you check how some of these orgs. throw around there money, I'm not going to feel bad bad about asking for a few bucks for a Domain.

Ok...Thanks to everyone for your opinions...I replied to the Church Org. email and declined. Also, the problem with not finding the listing on Sedo...is that I had not added it there, was configured to forward it there from godaddy...but i hadn't added the domain...anyway, it's added now..so it should be there as soon as they verify.
