Installing Joomla into a subdirectory, are there any conflicts?

I’m thinking about testing the CMS Joomla on an existing website by installing it into a subdirectory and pointing an existing domain name to it. Has anyone here tried this, if so, are there any drawbacks/conflicts?

Thanks in advance,

Kimberly

First off, I have used Joomla! and am not a fan of it. The original Mambo was much easier to use. I figure if you are going to go threw that much trouble, why not design it, make it more efficient, and make it look nicer?

i dont find any difference between mambo and joomla. after all the original developers are with joomla not with mambo. and i love joomla. the mods for older mambo all work with new joomla, you dont know what a relief that is.there are also a TON of addons ranging from weather to WAP site building. its very easy to apply hacks and mods, no editing of files. all in all i love it. it suits me. it does not mean that it should suit all.
also joomla has got some nifty themes. there is even a tutorial for creating a joomla site out of a template like the ones you get from template shop etc.
Kimberly, i dont think that you will have any problems, provided you start installing using the redirected domain. better add the new domain as an addon domain in ur cpanel.
if you want any help, dont hesitate to ask. you might also want to check out a site i am currently building ( not complete yet ) http://blockbusters.in
cheers

Joomla/Mambo in a subdirectory works fine, the only thing that can go wrong are the wysiwyg editors, document components and image uploaders that need a little hack to indicate that the file is in a subdir.
But these are minor corrections.

What a Lot of old Cobblers
Joomla! 1.0 is the old MAMBO Ver 4.52 with only minor changes (mainly Copyright and Name references)

As to the Original question
Yes Mambo/Joomla! Can/Does work in a Subdirectory,No problems.Indeed ,the Default installation using the EasyApps or Fantastico Installers is into a SubDirectory.

And w8amoment ,it does so without any HACKS needed if it was installed with the configuration.php indicating the correct installation directory.

I have installed several hundred MAMBO/Joomla! sites into subdirectories without the need for any hacks, fixes or problem

Kim,PM me if you need any help from someone who actually KNOWS Mambo/Joomla!.
I use/install Mambo/Joomla! sites daily and use it for most of my own and my client sites.I have used it from one-page minisites to High Traffic Portals.
