I sold PXVR.com yesterday in the SEDO auction for $235. There were 221 4-letter dot coms in this 7 day auction. My name had over 1,500 views by far the most of any in the auction, which got me pretty excited but as things worked out this auction was not exciting at all. I hand registered the domain 18 years ago and used it for a couple of years as a video news site. Traffic worked out to be pretty good on the site for a while but monetization was the issue so after more than 2 years online I took it down.

PXVR.com could be used for a whole lot of businesses and could stand for Picture Virtual Reality. The name is not an excellent name, not like a single word descriptive dot com but it is a sharp 4L dot com name. There were 221 names in the auction if I recall correctly and 30 sold, which I have to say is pretty disappointing.

What does this say about the state of domaining these days? Let me know what you think in the comments please. Thanks!

A couple things. Outreach to end users must be done, and then explained to the possible Buyer as to why they should acquire the name. I still have 5 out of 10 people per month that don't understand what I do for a living. They understand stockbroker, or doctor. They don't understand Domain Broker until you explain it to them..The same with and users....not obvious end users, but potential end users that can benefit. So in my world, end users just don't show up. And sometimes they need to take weeks to understand that they need to buy it.

I am embarrassed to say that in 2003, when I was given the opportunity to buy Scottsdale.com (low to mid 6 figures) it took me 3 weeks to understand that I absolutely had to have it. Thankfully I had a 30 irrevocable option to buy. So in this case I was the end user, and I needed time to realize the power of the name.

With the right buyer in the VR/XR/Metaverse sector, $50K+ is possible if the brand match is strong.
If you had $50K+ to spend on a VR domain, would this be the one you would choose out of several options?

Are you asking me? This was AI generated, not my thoughts. However if my company name was 4 words long and my corporate domain name was 17-18 letters long, and the 4L exact letter match became available, of course the upgrade may be worth it. I own some 3L .ai names and there are numerous companies that I'm reaching out to in the AI space that can greatly benefit from upgrading, in these cases, pricing is $25K.

on WhereHouse.com you might find it even more interesting.

That's a (US) cultural icon! (though it looks a little weird in camel case).

Sedo's auction is no longer the same as it was a few years ago.
