Since Wikipedia itself is .org, we might assume that Wikipedia would accept .org links most.

I looked at an article in Wikipedia, also representing one of the most searched keywords. But the article had no external links, only internal.
I looked up an available name that sounded very trustworthy, .org of course. The question is whether the wikipedians will take that link away since there is none. Maybe they think thinh suspiciously that any external link would be commercial. (And yes, I would set up adsence in that website later).

Wikipedia seems to do a pretty good job of limiting the amount of ad links going out, though some folks always seem to find a way of turning somebody else's content into a discussion about them. Look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affiliate_marketing for example . All of the outgoing links down below are unneccessary, but are thinly veiled links to self promoting individuals in the industry that always worm their way into the news, somehow.

That page could be cut in half and none of the actual content would be reduced.

Wikipedia has been on a mission the past six months or more to keep people from advertising on their pages. If it's not advertising it is the hopes of getting a free high PR backlink. As RogueWriter mentioned, most of it is an unnecessary compliment to the content.

To answer your question though - they will allow whatever link as long as it deserves to be there.
