Today I saw what I thought was a great domain listed in the closeout auctions for Godaddy. I bought the auction and later realized the domain is 1 letter short of what I expected. I know silly mistake...good lessoned learned but here is my real question:

When I look at the whois information on the domain I purchased, its states the domain does not expire until May 2010 and was renewed over 1 month ago. So how long are these closeout auctions listed for? Am I missing something? I think Godaddy should remove these auctions automatically when the owner renews.

Thank you for your time.

The owner didn't renew because then he would have the domain name. Godaddy renewed it so it didn't expire and sold it to you. Also it will expire on the date it says because it was already renewed. They will not add an additional year. It will still expire on 2010.

Ok, that makes sense, so Godaddy is the one that renewed it on May 14 2009.

This is one of those newbie moments worth sharing. I am the proud owner of infom.org ... not inform.org... there is a good laugh for everyone.:guilty:

When you look at lists of domains for long periods of times, your eyes begin to play tricks on you. You sometimes even begin to see things that you WANT to see. haha. Don't feel to bad, similar situations have probably happened to most of us already as well.

I'm not laughing :'( same thing happened to me about a month ago. I'm typically very careful but it happens to many others as well. Two of the vowels were transposed, just glad it was only 60 bucks, it could have been much worse.

That's an easy mistake. I registered "babyvideomoniter.com" not too long ago, and then noticed the misspelling.

Thanks for the positive feedback. Like I said it is a good lessoned learned. I now make myself copy and paste the domain in estibot as a starting point...that way I am not adding letters when hand entering it.

:D

Yes, I became the proud owner of "homecomputerepair.com" which I thought was amazing, until I realized there was only one "r". it took me 6 years in domaining to manage grabbing my first typo so I figured it was coming eventually...
