Pros/Cons of User Registration Method?

I'm trying to decide whether to run my User Registration on a User Name decided by the user when they signup, or by eMail Address. All other functioning will be the same. Are their any Pros or Cons of using one method over another? I'm kinda preferring the eMail address method, but that requires some tinkering with my current code. Would like to see what others think before proceeding.

Personally I like the email method myself. I think it helps cut down on users registering username1, username2, username3, etc... under one email account where as you restrict it to one email then it requires a little more effort on their part to grab more user names.

It all depends on what kind of site you have. For forums, I would probably say usernames, but I would say to use email addresses for most other sites.

Thanks for your replies. I tried to convert my software to the email method, but it was ultimately beyond my coding abilities. So I had to go with the username method. But actually I've got a hybrid. All old users are under the email method but all new users will be under the username method.
