Problems, Bugs and Fixes at Afternic - Report Problems Here

I suggest a new thread titled Problems, Bugs and Fixes at Afternic - Report Problems Here. Then we can all list our issues so Afternic have to fix them. These Afternic probs have been repeatedly flagged up across numerous threads on here over a period of time, including the need for 2FA. Godaddy own Afternic and have the resources and motivation to fix it - this risky mess is unacceptable and reflects badly on their brand.

For info, Afternic keep reverting some of my domains to "In Review" status for no reason, and I only know that if I log in there to check on them. Until I then ask support to take them out of Review they are not listed for sale and will not sell at Afternic.

@Joe Styler When can we expect Godaddy to take action on Afternic, including implementing 2FA?

Interesting...received the "Transfer Away" order from DynaDot for a domain of mine that I had listed at Afternic and the domain did in fact fast transfer away to Afternic, but I have not yet received the "Congrats domain has sold via Afternic Fast Transfer DLS" email.

Inside my Afternic account in the Portfolio/All Domains section the domain shows as SOLD, but it is not yet listed among all my sold domains in the Portfolio/Sold section, so I don't yet know what price exactly it sold at...somewhere between the floor and BIN I am sure.
I have exactly same problem wih some domains these days, how they solve your problem ?
I hope i did not have non paid domains in the past like that, I manage a lot of sales and do not care a lot of transfer away messages...

This issue resolved itself I was eventually paid.

Not sure if it was discussed here or not.

You listed the domain name on Afternic but the domain name was listed on Godaddy by the previous owner.

Someone is looking for the domain name on Godaddy and made an offer so it'll go to the previous owner and it won't come to you/ Afternic.

@Joe Styler Any workaround for this?

1000+ domains under review.

It would be so nice to have a TXT record to approve domains...
I'm sure a lot of sales are missed...

Wow....

I noticed that my names under review approximately doubled a week or two ago.

The really annoying thing is there's no way to *just* call up a list of your names that are under review, as far as I know, so you can delete and resubmit them when they get stuck. The option that claims to do that in Afternic doesn't actually work.

Your issue is fixed the names were submitted twice and got stuck because of that for some reason. It shouldn't happen and they fixed it.

The names you had pending were waiting for trademark approval. Its a holiday week last week and the lawyers don't work holidays :) There may have been a bit of a backup during that time. They got looked at today.

Joe, it appears that Afternic stopped "reviewing" domains marked as "in review" after initial submission. Each and every time (at least in November - December) I have to email service@ asking them to review-approve pending domains. I usually wait a few days, once I waited ~1 week, but the domains were never reviewed if not asked... Why is this?

I dont know exactly what you mean. reviewed how by the service team you are asking, by the automated processed we run to say scan for trademark issues or to see if the domain is listed already by someone, ownership etc, or moving to review status after it was already successfully in fast transfer status? That is usually, not always, but usually because of a WHOIS change or update on the registrar side of things. There are various stages listing that can trigger the review status. Either way service@ can look at the specific domains and find out why. The should respond, normally within 48 hours or faster. They might not be able to take your domain out of review for various reasons like say trademark or duplicate listing they cannot confirm ownership on or the registrar says no, (maybe there is a new transfer lock or something the registrar would know about). Lot's of reasons. Support should be responding even if they cannot clear the domain out at the time for one of the above reasons.

I mean new domain successfully added and marked "in review" due to potential tm or adult status. Earlier: reviewed in 1-2 days without any intervention from my end. Now: never "reviewed" until such a time I ask service@ to ...

@Joe Styler

I have a domain with a Pending Sale status that had a BIN of above $10K. Does this status mean you are waiting for buyer's wire transfer, and that the sale therefore might not happen, or that you are verifying funds already received?

Thanks.

Congratulations. I dont know without the background could be a couple things. [email protected] can look into it and tell you.

I think it is either one of two things. You had a rep helping before and actively watching your account, or the reason that your domains are in review are different than before. Like TM vs ownership verification just as an example.

You had a rep
I wish I had one... Sometimes it is possible to guess why the automated system suspected something (such as domains related to a beautiful UK city of Sussex), sometimes - my fantasy is not enough to guess. In any case, "in review" status imples that the domain is queued for some manual intervention by Afternic employee. Which never happens. And it is the problem.

It was always sufficient to add an own domain to own Afternic account (even as "inactive" listing, if not for sale) to prevent afternic api customers to add it as "theirs" - even though they do not really own it.

Is it no more the case?

My recent experience:

Added GoDaddy-regged domain, enabled fast transfer. All good. After ~2 weeks, the domain disappeared from my afternic account and is now listed by somebody else, with different price. Most notably, real whois email (which afternic should be able to check, as it is GoDaddy-regged domain) is the same as my Afternic account email. And the domain had fast transfer enabled - approved by myself.

How was it possible for the system ( or for any human from service@ ) in the above circumstances to allow somebody else to add it, and to remove my listing?

Well, service@ responded extremely fast. A good sign. But, unfortunately, they were unable to address the root cause of the issue. The response is not too logical - afternic agent confirmed that I had the domain listed originally, and, at the same time, his is of opinion that listing the domain (again) should be sufficient to prevent others from "adding" it.

We see that you're the owner of the domain <..>, but the domain was listed from another account.
We have verified the domain ownership and cancelled the listing. We will not be able to get back your listing, but you should be able to re-list the domain from your portfolio. Having the domain listed from your account will prevent other people from listing it.

So, the original question is still open. Who removed my listing of GD-regged domain with instant transfer approved and matching whois email? Are there any guarantees the my resubmitted listing would not disappear again (and instantly, after the privileged afternic api customer sends his next batch of domains, with my domain inside)?

Cc @Joe Styler ...

Did you read the earlier posts in this thread reporting that certain superusers at Afternic have the power to upload spreadsheets that automatically list all the names in them, including ones they do not own which are already listed on Afternic by the true owner. So they will overwrite your submission, repeatedly, there is nothing you can do about it.

I'm still trying, being too optimistic maybe.... :) So far, further automated submissions from hugedomains for example (should be powerful user) indeed failed as soon as I actually added my domains to my afternic acct... I had simply to act as soon as possible after their false listings were removed by afternic staff. I know that hugedomains is one of such users, saw my domains "available" also on hugedomains .com at the same time I tried to add them to afternic. The current case must be different though...
