I am going to throw this out there and see where it goes.

I am pledging $500 today for a pro rata share in the best domain this board can buy.

I think we can get news.tv for a cash payment of $100,000 and I am keen to test my theory. 200 more of us ought to do it!

Anyone who pledges must be prepared to be a silent investor (including myself). $1 = 1 vote to appoint the board of the news.tv corp.

**I realise my post is a bit thin on details (its 11.30pm!) so lets consider this is a working document**

hey grant,

first off what makes you think we could get it for 100k instead of 500k
secondly,it is showing as taken already on enom.tv
thirdly, even if it is available, to recoup the 100,000 a year you need to develop one heck of a site - easily looking at 50 - 100k so that needs to be taken into account
fourthly - based upon your figures you are looking at 50 domainers chipping in - that is a nightmare just thinking about it!!!!!!!!!

maybe people could all pitch in their top names they already own and state what the buy in cost would be to develop and the max amount of partners you will allow.....just aanother take on your idea

hey back

1) ...
2) I have been away a while. It's gone?? No press release?
3) I didn't say per year.
4) No its more than that - considerably more. It would need a corp.

I'll reply to 1) in more detail later.

Reasons why this never works,

Hard enough getting two people to agree, let alone 10,50 or 200

Anyone getting involved would be a fool for the company not to be incorporated in their own country. With 200 people highly unlikely all from the same Country.

NEWS.tv would be the last name IMO, Because the idiots priced it at $500,000 means nothing IMO.

NEWS is too broad IMO, secondly people want something they trust, BBC, NBC, CNN etc........

Find a name that is $10,000 or lower if you are needing to do one of these IMO.
Again IMO

I think that if we could interest 1 or 2 of the top 5 .tv minds on this board to "run" it - then that may be a better "working" solution.

In fact - for the sake of the developmental team in place - i think it would be much better to allocate "fractional" "non-majority" voting shares to the domainer investors.

At the end of the day we would have to have complete and utter trust (and faith) that the decisions made by the #1 are in the best interest of all. There would be a definitive leap of faith involved here as this would obviously require an awful lot of trust.

At the end of the day - the fractional shareholders should have a "minority" vote in the direction of the venture - in other words, we would have a "say" -BUT - ALL FINAL decisions would be made by the nominated developer and his key staff. I believe that is the only fair way to make it work when i try to put myself in the developer's shoes.

If this could be worked out in an equitable, businesslike manner - i might even be willing to invest more than $500 in such an opportunity. It is possible that others might be as well. (The "optimist" in me...!!! lol)

In fact, i can say for myself that i am ALL ears to anyone who wants to contact me about opportunities within this space. I have already taken steps to gather interest/assemble a small team with a very talented graphic artist who is a long time friend of mine. I am trying to determine whether or not and/or how long it will take me/us to become proficient with Dreamweaver so that we can create the sites ourselves - or bring on a talented web designer.

The ultimate goal is to strategically develop all of our domain properties based upon the strength of the names and create brands within each one. The vast majority of the development will be scaled down or mini sites w/ the bigger time/money/emphasis going into the killer keyword domains. The only hang-up i have right now is that i am currently self-employed with a full time financial related business that takes up a LOT of my time - so the only time i have to work on these things are mainly at night and on weekends.

I have a feeling that new iMac/Dreamweaver software are coming really, really soon!... :D

One thing I know for sure is that I am really excited about the opportunities that lie before me online. I am really fired up about it and i will find a way to make it work. But - there is still much that must be done prior to just jumping in with no direction or planning. It's just a matter of prioritizing and focusing on 1 or 2 really strong names and not getting caught up in the 1000 or so other names... lol

So we're clear, I didn't actually say news.tv, but I did use it as an example throughout the thread so apologies for any confusion.

I am interested in the best name our collective $/£'s and euros can buy (to be decided by a board - I may not even like the board's choice (but I will have voted them in - so, so be it!)

Eq, why so:

Microsoft's shareholders don't agree on everything the company does. All they have to agree on are the best people to make decisions on their behalf? That's why I suggested incorporation. There is more than enough talent and experience and passion here to make up a board.

Why should everyone want the corporation incorporated in their own jurisdiction - tax reasons? , legal reasons? Can you clarify as my day job is multi-jurisdiction fund structuring (for tax) and I don't think either of these factors would put me off or concern me.

**at present this is a theoretical think big thread so don't be shy to add your thoughts whether pro or against**

I think that's a far better idea. There's lots of people here that own really good names already that they haven't developed yet. If they can spread the costs and development time needed among a few people the site can get developed. If you can get a few people with different skill sets developing is so much easier.

I have a premium domain that's the top name of it's niche that gets over 9 million searches a month on Google. I have a 120 page website written by a professional and it's ready to go but I just don't have the time to develop it full time on my own. (If anybody is interested PM me).

So many people here have great names already that would be far better than anything that is still available to reg.

That sounds a far better idea to me.
Almost every decent name that is not vastly over priced is already off the market so going for one of the remaining premiums is not a good route. IMHO

Working out a deal with somebody here who owns a top domain could work great, get partners to raise development costs and try max the potential that way.
