Yes, it's that time of year when we throw out the old and look to the new - and you don't get any fresher and new than internet TV and its travelling companions of .TV and TV.com.
So, looking to 2009, I wondered what predictions people might have (serious and frivolous).
The best answer that proves to be correct on 31 December 2009 (that's just a year away folks) will get a prize of 250 NP dollars from your truly (me).
To start I would like to make my own predictions.
1. The majority of 'pure flip 'em domainers' will move away from .TV and to whatever is the 'next best thing', but the slack will be taken by a larger number of those entering the internet TV industry PLUS those who are domaining for the longer term PLUS those who have a better idea of monetisation of niche .TV visual sites.
2. At least five of the bigger .TV players will go bust on bad 'premium' name calls. In other words they will be unable to renew and will leave the .TV arena.
3 At least two of the bigger .Tv players here will show their hands fully and launch a series of higher profile TV sites. My guess would be Michaeldotcom and Millers.
4. Jeff will finally make some money in the world of .TV and there will be no turning him back.
5. Snoop will admit that .TV can run concurrently with .com without there being a problem to either extension.
6. The bigger media corporations will enter the arena with a stronger and more permanent attitude as they look to gain revenue for lower costs.
7. Advertisers will continue making their own 'ads' or 'advertorials' or 'promotional films' or 'sponsored TV channels' (choose the name you like) and running them via internet TV sites with bespoke names.
8. Film costs will become even cheaper as the recession kicks the world further into the mire.
9. The price of lower quality domain names will fall flat. In contrast, high quality generic domain names will maintain their value.
10. Yet another year will pass without EQ getting the proper respect he deserves for ensuring that this forum delivers quality information / light-hearted relief / sounding board for all those interested in the .TV and TV.com brands.
Finally, we will discover what Polin, Kam and Len do with all that money they are making.
Have a great 2009 - whatever it may bring!
