"PR Is Not Important"???

I got into SEO exactly this time last year. I believe PR is important, esp. because it gives you an idea of e.g. how many backlinks you've got or how many quality sites are linking to yours, or every other reason that's linked to page ranking.

I hear a lot of people saying "PR is not important" and it's starting to make me sick to my stomach, mainly because I've spent lots of time trying to increase my sites' PR.

So is it true; is PR not important anymore or are people who say stuff like that just big losers (with their "PR - N/A" sites)?

I have one site with me that has PR 0 :D and gets 15000 uniques per month all from google, yahoo, msn.

Relevant content and relevant backlinks are most important. Having a high PR certaintly doesn't do any harm and could be the difference between you and the competition if they have similar content. However at the end of the day all you should care about is if your site turns up when a searcher searches for the keywords related to your website. This should be your main goal. Once this is achieved then it is still good to work on backlinks and building PR to make sure you stay at the top of the rankings.

I think to say that PR doesn't matter is hyperbole. However, PR is extremely irrelevant and not everything, but with that said, PR is often all we have to look at. Things like SEOmoz's linkscape tool are changing that, but for a long time is was all we had to go on.

pr has very little to do (if anything) with the amount of traffic you receive. where are you getting your information from?

PageRank has nothing to do with traffic. You can find many sites that doesn't have any PR but still gets loads of traffic.

buddy actually you are right but in lillte way you are not match with me. i think PR shows your reputation even on your daily or newly visites client. also it shows your site is on a good direction if your PR rise otherwise it shows down PR. so that it helps you to point out your attention.

Yes, PR is not important at all and it has nothing to do with SERPs. Just concentrate on building more and more backlinks and uninstall the toolbar on your pc which tells you about the PR of the pages so that you may take a sigh of peace.

Page rank is calculated based on the number of inbound links that you are getting.. It is the credibility and reliability of a site.. If you have high PR, then tons of site owners will exchange links with you..

That is incorrect, it is more like "The higher your search engine rank the higher your page rank". Page rank is just a visual way of Google saying what it thinks of you, and it isn't always accurate as sometimes sites with no page rank rank better then those with. It's best to focus on developing a decent site and let the pagerank come as it does.
