"PR Is Not Important"???

I got into SEO exactly this time last year. I believe PR is important, esp. because it gives you an idea of e.g. how many backlinks you've got or how many quality sites are linking to yours, or every other reason that's linked to page ranking.

I hear a lot of people saying "PR is not important" and it's starting to make me sick to my stomach, mainly because I've spent lots of time trying to increase my sites' PR.

So is it true; is PR not important anymore or are people who say stuff like that just big losers (with their "PR - N/A" sites)?

Pagerank is nothing more than a number; it's an in-direct factor in search results. Remember, Google considers the quality AND relevancy of a backlink, Pagerank is only based on purely backlinks and not relevancy. This is why low PR web pages can out rank high PR web pages in search results. Worry about SERPs, not Pagerank. However, when you are building backlinks try to achieve links from "high Pagerank" web pages that are "very relevant" to yours.

I don't think PR really matters as far as your place in google. I have domains with no PR that rank first page, some first entry for certain keywords.

It is helpful when trying to find link exchange partners and it is nice to have it as it is a sort of aknowledgement for all your hard work but many people get too caught up with trying to get it or improve it believing that it is the key to reaching top spot on google or whatever.

Given time pr will look after itself.

PR is important and it is not important depends on the point of view...

If someone is getting load of hits without PR then it is not important for him. But if someone is already getting load of hits then he doesn't even needs SEO.

I agree with Brunch above that it is good thing to have PR because when you try to find link partners they do want to see Good PR pages linking to them.

It is true that a site with no or low PR can out rank a high PR pages. Google love to index new content and that is the reason why we see sites outranking high PR pages.

I think that is why people say PR is not important. However, to increase a site's rank in search results, you need backlinks, and with backlinks you also get PR. So if you just get backlinks, you will get both things, PR and good SERPs.

it's all selling point for me, some prioritizes alexa ranking over google pr, some vice-versa.

it's a way to measure how famous your pages are.

PR is a good for SEO certainly. But I think a PR backlink is better because my site is receiving that a lot more recently and its SERP is climbing one rank to rank at the first page. Before this it was firstpage at number 10 but now up to number 7,8.

PR is only important if you want to sell links on your site. It plays a small role in SERPS

PR isn't that really important as long as your site comes up on top of google search engine for certain keywords.
Ex: i have a forum eseonline.net. If you search for "english sharing" or "english sharing forum" then you'll see my site places in 1st or 2nd. but it only has PR of 3.

So as long as your site(s) showed up on top of google search engine with the right keywords, then you're good.

PR is only good if you want to exchange links with others. Pay more attention to alexa's rank as it shown you how popular your site(s) is/are.

PR is good for bragging rights and selling links and that's about it. Of course a high PR link is useful if it is from a relevant site and is "Do Follow" with a great anchor text included.

though pr is not an important factor in itself it helps other factors fall in to prespective ..like.... if u are doing some link building and see a inrease in pr u know u did something right and if there is an seo rankings so u know where that is cming from ...and inthe end also give u a yardstick to measure a site when buying it....................

PR is not the only indicator of good SEO. I have seen many low PR sites ranking high for competitive keywords and at the same time many high PR sites can nowhere be seen in google ranking for same keyword.

Keywords is another important aspect for SERP
My site is PR0 but ranked 2nd under a website Alexa 4K, PR6 for a very popular word..jeez..

I have a domain www.noworkday.com that has a PR of 2.
I started posting there content 2 weeks ago and for just sitting it had gained a pagerank 2. strange.
