"PR Is Not Important"???

I got into SEO exactly this time last year. I believe PR is important, esp. because it gives you an idea of e.g. how many backlinks you've got or how many quality sites are linking to yours, or every other reason that's linked to page ranking.

I hear a lot of people saying "PR is not important" and it's starting to make me sick to my stomach, mainly because I've spent lots of time trying to increase my sites' PR.

So is it true; is PR not important anymore or are people who say stuff like that just big losers (with their "PR - N/A" sites)?

:(

believe me! It's very easy to get a PR of 3/10. But that's as far as a site can go without any link back.

If you want to have a high PR, there's only one way: Back Links. Have your links on sites with high PR would help.

Google Technology Overview

Google use more than 200 signals, including our patented PageRank™ algorithm, to examine the entire link structure of the web and determine which pages are most important.

PageRank reflects our view of the importance of web pages by considering more than 500 million variables and 2 billion terms. Pages that we believe are important pages receive a higher PageRank and are more likely (meaning not always) to appear at the top of the search results.

Yes PR is NOT IMPORTANT

Why does everyone want pagerank so bad?

I haven't checked a client's PR for around a year, since I realised how stupid it was. The only indicator on how well your client is doing is rankings & revenue.

Not PR which determines a small percentage of a very large algorithm.

I'm going to say it one more time...

WATCHING THE GREEN TOOLBAR WILL NOT BOOST YOUR SITES RANKINGS OR REVENUE... EVER
... just concentrate on whats important! Aim for high rankings.

I have PR2 sites ranking above PR6's because of a few relevant and targeted backlinks and some good on site SEO.

Oh did I also mention we can't even see the real PR :)

Sorry ranting again :'(

I have never seen any correlation between PR and page rank on our sites.

I wrongly stated my point here. I have never seen a correlation between PR and the SERP's on our websites... OOPS!

The linking page's PageRank is important if you do link exchanges. How do they know that you have a good reputation? Well.. what else? Google Pagerank is definitely one of the best factor they can use. Now they say Google Pagerank is not important anymore? Oh please, with due respect to those people who have just been slapped by Google Pagerank Downgrade, I would say It is!

@ ameRie

In terms of ranking Google PR is not important.

However i do admit when searching for links you naturally (taking in more important factors such as relevancy and authority) favour the higher PR page.

If people aimed for rankings rather than PR then it would not annoy me so much.

If I had 1 penny everytime i saw a thread asking why there PR5 is not ranking ahead of PR1's then I would have left SEO and be on a beach!

A number of clients have even said they have been advised they need a PR# to rank for a term so can we get it.

One answer... GET LOST. :)

PR may be an just an indicator, but people should not worry about the number but rather focus on practices that have helped increase PR. Though PR can provide a hint of a site's popularity, but it is certainly not a reliable measure.

I think PR is loosing their charm. Still people are curious when PR updating is going on but now this one is not showing any relevant impact. If you are into the sale of links or website than PR will give you more bucks.

Pagerank is important, but in my opinion anchored backlinks from authoritative sites will boost you to the front page of google - not pagerank.

I have heard it is not as important today too. If you are a blogger it is very important to get people to link to you. If you are trying to get links it is very relevant!

Well if you are into the business of buying and selling links or into the business of selling websites than PR is a decorative cherry for you. But if you are not than I wont give any important marks to PR.

Because I saw so many websites that does not have contain nor backlinks but even than they are able to have PR 4 or PR 5.

PR is important, but someone who have lower PR with more quality and relevant backlinks can overtake those with higher PR.

I have a website with zero page rank, and it gets most of its traffic form google.(20 visiters approx.

Page Rank still matters in SEOs. PR is the number one factor needed in Exchanging links. Why? because, we can determine the site's quality by its Page rank. Page ranks states how many quality backlinks your page have.

PageRank not really a big of a deal.

Matt Cutts made a clear statement about PageRank in the interview: "There are over 100 factors in ranking. And PageRank is just one of them. It's an important factor, but it's by no means the be-all and end-all."

"We've said it before in our newsletter: the green PR bar in Google's toolbar doesn't mean much. If you want to get good results with search engines, you should not get obsessed with that value."

http://www.free-seo-news.com/newsletter213.htm

it only matters when you're doing link trades thingy.

I think that page rank is very important factor to generate traffic to your web site. For instance, when I person searches definite information in google, it will show only high page ranked web sites.

Link to other authority sites. Google loves outbound links. Link to the most authoritative websites in your niche. Wikipedia is a great example for almost any niche.
Think this information will be helpful for you.

not sure what you mean by "definite information," but google will display the most relevant pages to your search, and pagerank doesn't play that big of a role for most searches.

i also doubt that linking to wikipedia will help that much to your own listing, if it even does at all.

rubbish! pagerank has nothing to do with your traffic.

there are a lot of websites that doesn't have PR but rank good enough in SE's.

Google loves outbound links.

what? having tons of outbound links won't help your site.
