PR and the influence it can have on website position in Google?

I would like to raise one of the most arguable questions nowadays – page rank and the impact it has on website ranking positions in Google! I think page rank has not a direct impact on Google algorithm today! Even if it does this influence is much lower today! What do you think about this question? Do you agree with me? If not let’s start discussing this interesting topic!

I'd say the internal page rank figure google calculate does have a significant impact on SERPS.

And I think the toolbar pagerank gives some indication how a page has ranked in the past, but is probably calculated differently to the 'real' figure and so out of date that it isn't a very reliable indicator of too much anyway.

Yes, I agree that PR is connected with Google only, but it has lower value now!

PageRank is a value based on backlinks.

Although the value of PageRank is today almost useless to use as a measurement, backlinks is not. It is not the PageRank that has an impact on ranking, it is the backlinks.

Backlinks is perhaps to most important factor in ranking - in all major search engines.

The only factor that affect PR is the quality of link :D It is very relevant to the big G especially in their search results. It is only for Googl and not on other search engines.

I have sites lising #1 on Google for very competitive keywords. These sites are PR1 (toolbar) and they are ranking better than the PR5 and PR6 competition. I see no value in PR (at least the toolbar ranking)

There are certain correlation between them only that this is not the only component in the algorithm.
