Do WordPress title tags affect page rank & search engine performance? My website used to appear on the first page when searched for at Google. I recently added a WordPress tag to my title (which displays the name of the page in the title, therefore, a different title for every page) and my website has been bumped down to the second page. Although, Google isn't caching the whole title (it still displays the old title of my website, the one I had before I updated the WP tag).

Do you think this is a cause for concern?

Hi Vick, what you have done will not affect your PageRank. PageRank is purely determines by the quality of links pointing to your site.

I believe what you have done will benefit your SERP in the long run and you should not be bothered with it. Try to continue to build your links and you should see your SERP stabilized.

By the way, I hope you have a google webmaster account so that you can take a look of how Google sees your site.. just in case they think otherwise :)

Good luck!

all metas affect your se performance but not your page rank for it's affected by quality/quantity of your backlinks.

I think you are using the all-in-one-seo plugin. It may affect your serp now but think of it as one step back to future 100 steps further :) Wordpress is really very good in improving serps

Yes, but it is not having as much affect on the PR nowadays and in the future it may not effect it at all, may not even have PR in a few years. ;)

PR is affected by number of quality inbound links, WordPress title tags can only affect your search engine performance in the long run.
