Why are .websites worthless? it is a generic tld which can rank in serp like any other tld but yet no one uses?
is it only the reg fee of $30? That doesn't seem that high to me if you have over 1,000,000 exact match searches a month? Can anyone shed some light on this for me, cause I am obviously missing something.

I think it only makes sense where the main product is a website - i.e. for a reference site for example.

I am not too keen on the extension, for reasons (e.g. length, redundancy) others have noted, but I did buy two of them when virtually all meaningful extensions were gone, and it would work as a reference website, and the renewal fee is standard and I got them at registration fee.

I doubt that most .website domains will ever sell for much above high $$ if they well at all, but if you get them cheap enough that can work.

There is talk of $30 renewal fee in this thread, but you don't need to pay nearly that. Renewal at Namecheap is less than $10.06, so competitive with other TLDs. Find lowest renewal and transfer here (no association with site):

$1 Special was the only reason I reg'ed them at GD. But their renewal at GD is $29.99.

If you feel it is worth holding @urljunky you could transfer it to another registrar - e.g. Namecheap transfer of .website is $13.06 including ICANN fee. But I agree it is worth looking carefully if it is worth the cost to transfer/renew given that there have been almost no sales.

@MetBob I completely agree. And I did look into sales of that extension before I purchased. I couldn't resist. I do want to keep a few for later investment. homesforsale, openstack, mynews, cleanenergy, and maybe hollywoodtours. Thanks for the tip at namecheap. I do have an account there with a few domains. I will transfer them their if I still have them when they are up for renewal.

I had few numeric .website domains and I sold them during numeric domain rush during 2016.

And even those pretty much suck as names/brands. They just don't look right IMO.

It doesn't have to be a brand just target the exact type in.

personally I think dot website, dot site, are not that bad! because sometime I use dot site or dot website to build pbn, i.e my personal preferance!

but if we talk about biz, investing, domain buy and sell, trading or whatever! never use your own personal preference! because market don't care to what we likes! and if you want to make money! try to likes what market want!

in seo language, why choose short tail keywords , because obviously, long tail keywords are much much more easier! unless you have big budget to spend, its up to you, ATM, people don't know about .website dot site and etc! maybe they know, but majority, they only know dot com!

simple question, which you will choose, Toyota, Honda, or Jialing ? ( I bet you never heard about Jialing)
obviously, 9 years old kids, will choose Honda or toyota! Correct me If I am wrong

But back to the topic .website if every other gtld is taken like for example "loans" If you had loans.website what would it be worth? $0? Not worth regging?
I am asking all this obviously because I registered some .websites with 1,000,000 exact search monthly
