PetTube.com - Received one offer and one inquiry - Update: Sold for $3,500

A little over a month ago I got an anonymous $200 afternic offer and ignored it. Today I received an email asking if I was planning on developing it or if I would be willing to sell it. I am planning on developing it, right now it is just parked. I'm not really that keen on selling this for just a small price since I think it would be an interesting one to build. But if I do decide to respond with a price, how much do you think would be the highest I could reasonably ask. I'm really looking for what the highest price is, becasue I'm not at all motivated to sell this one. It's funny, right after Google bought YouTube the traffic on this jumped and then the 2 offers came in. Thanks for any input.

UPDATE: Sold pettube.com for $3,500. Thanks again for all the feedback.

Looking at the sale of DogSpace.com you posted about here: http://www.namepros.com/domain-name-discussion/271875-dogspace-com-just-sold-sedo-28-a.html

I would say to hold out until you get a LOT better offer. I love making videos of my pets doing stupid stuff (I've even posted one on MetaCafe), and while it would be impossible to turn a niche site like PetTube.com into the traffic giant YouTube has become, you would definitely be able to create a buzz. It needs to be developed soon, though, since someone could be developing one right now.

Thanks for the input RegFee. Rep added.

I'm thinking about responding asking $3500. What do you think?

Why $3,500.00? :talk:

Would it be possible to share the contents (c&p) of the email asking if you were planning on developing it, or if you'd be willing to sell it ... also, any information from the emailer's address, etc? :gl:

Thanks, hope to be of assistance.

Jeff, the content of the email was pretty much what I described. To be exact it was...

Hi,

Are you planning on doing anything with www.pettube.com or would you be
willing to sell it?

The email address is a hotmail address so I didn't think that would be much help, but since you put the idea of doing some digging, I put the email address in google and found out that the interested party has posted on the following forums...

http://forums.devx.com/index.php?
http://p2p.wrox.com/default.asp
http://www.webservertalk.com/

Based on his posts he seems to be an independent webdeveloper. Doesn't look like there are any deep pockets there... shucks! For privacy reasons I don't think it would be good to disclose his identity. Thanks for prompting me to do some more digging. Rep added and much thanks.

:bingo:

Considering all of that (and anything else you may be able to uncover), and, despite it's "double-t", it's good long-term potential ... I like your $2,250 - $3,500+/- initial approach price IMHO. :talk:

Please keep us posted, Happy New Year, and all the best Greg. :)

This is a lesson for all of us here, thanks CJ.
When we get these offers the more we know about who and where they came from, the better position we are in to make an educated guess.

Just because it's a free addy doesnt mean it's not a real player in disguise.
And this name in particular, holds real dev potential.

Why 3,500 is my question as well.

Peace,
Cyberian

Well I knew I was going to ask for at least $1K, and then I started thinking, hey why not $5K. Thought maybe that was too much, and went for the middle ground and I thought the number $3500 looked good.

Hi,

Are you planning on doing anything with www.pettube.com or would you be
willing to sell it?

Hello,

Yes, I've owned the domain name - PetTube.com - for some time ... acquiring it to one day develop. I think it presents a wonderful and unique development opportunity! :music:

Considering this potential and that I've had other offers in the past for its acquisition, please email me back directly to discuss at your earliest convenience.

Thank you very much for your inquiry, and I look forward to your reply.

Kind regards,
-Greggish

Jeff, I never seem to write anything like that. My inclination is to respond with a $number and that's it. I have done that in the past and probably put off some potential buyers. I figure why bs around when the only important thing is the $number. I actually think it's silly for the guy to even ask me if I plan on doing anything with it, when all he needs to say is "Hi, how much is the domain?" I have to start being more conversational in my domain emails. People seem to expect that, although I'd rather just go back and forth with bare $prices.

^ Understandable ... but try something like above, IMHO. :music: :talk:

Hopefully it'll then inspire a "converstational" reply ... and then, toghether, we can fine-tune a return email with price expectations, time-line, method(s) for secure transfer, etc. Jumping right into ~$3,500.00 here may not bring about the best results, IMHO. :guilty:

All of this, of course, if you're comfortable in sharing ... in this experiment, etc. ONLY!
Thanks.

Good morning. :)

Assuming he/she has not read this ... would you like to touch base with the email contact today? :talk:

Thanks, and Happy MLK Day.

I emailed him back. Since he was pretty vague and didn't ask a price, but only "would you be willing to sell it?", I just responded with 5 words...

"I'm willing to sell it."

You think he'll make me an offer or ask for a price? I also think there's a better than 50/50 chance he's reading this thread. We'll see.

I hope so, I really do! :music:

Please keep us posted, and all the best Greg!

I know. But what can I say... that's just not me.

I hope so, I really do! :music:

Oh, I'm sure he'll respond back doing one of the two. What I meant was, do you think he'll make me an immediate offer when he emails me back? Or do you think he'll ask me to name a price?

It's Jeff... not really, but what a story that would make.

That's what I'm saying ... I think you stand a 50/50 in getting an reply, IMHO.

Let's catch up here again IF he does, sound good? :talk:

Will do. But I have a feeling that as soon as I give him the $3500 price tag I won't hear back from him. I'll probably end up developing it.
