PayPal = Stoneage?

Ok so I just opened a paypal account a few minutes ago because I need to buy a vbulletin license asap!

I added a CC # and completed the registration process. When I try to add funds paypal tells me to go to my local bank to deposit money into my paypal account? I mean seriously, is that the only way to add funds if you're not living in the US?

I thought paypal was supposed to be easy, if that's the only way I'll cancel my account right now because that's ridicilous :(

Anyone with paypal experience, please let me know what's going on..

Cheers,
3D

I've never had a CC on my PayPal account (just my bank,) and I pay through the money that's just in my account.

You don't need a PayPal account to pay with a CC.

thanks for the reply Dan :) Jelsoft won't accept CC's though, so paypal is my next option! In order to buy a vbulletin license with paypal (or make other payments online with paypal) I need to get some money onto my account, so I added my cc card number. Now when I click on 'funds' it tells me to go to my local bank and do this and that..

Either way, does that mean I have to go to my local bank before I can buy anything with my paypal account?

Can't you just pay by Paypal and use the credit card as your primary funding source without loading the Paypal account?
That's what I always do when I have no balance.

thanks HH that could be an option :) Only problem is that it wouldn't process as fast as I'd like - tonight :hehe: do you know how long it would take for the payment to process if I'd use my CC as primary funding source without loading my Paypal account?

It takes a matter of minutes to process my CC if I don't have any funds in my account...

So Vbulletin won't accept your credit card but it's Paypal that's the problem? Sorry but you have an odd way of looking at things. Also if you haven't setup a paypal account till now it's you that was in the stone-age. I had my account now for 7 years.

It's not an odd way of lookin at it - if you would've read my post twice you would've understood that Paypal is stoneage because you have to go to the bank to depost money into the paypal account. That alone takes 3-5 days. I thought I could deposit money into my account straight from my debit card / Credit card within minutes.

Trust me, iIf I had a chance to pay with the CC directly over at Jelsoft I would - but they don't have that option so I had to sign up with Paypal and go through them in order to get what I needed. I had to set my CC as the primary payment option ovet at Paypal, and it said on the Jelsoft website that if I didn't have enough funds on my account it could take up to 5 days before the transaction was completed. Unfortunately I couldn't wait for 5 days but that's all sorted out now.

Last but not least, I don't really care if you had your paypal account for 7 years or not. I've been on the web since 1994 so paypal is nothing new to me. However, most up to date websites with a webshop allow direct CC payments and that has always been my way of buying things online. When a website doesn't have that option I'm forced to come up with another solution - and paypal was the closest option so I had to sign up. Not because I wanted to, but because I had to.

why did you stick 'i have had paypal for 7 years' in your post, what does that have to do with anything?

Paypal is good, Just use your bank account. All the other "alternative methods" aren't as accepted as paypal.

Paypal needs some *serious* competition.

It's coming - Google merchant.

I personally don't like that Paypal require a seperate account for accepting Micro-payments. Why not use same account, and use a rate chart to charge accordingly???

Also, that you can only have one URL for IPN. Many on-line merchants need this feature on more than one Website!

Google Checkout has already been released.
https://checkout.google.com/sell

While it may compete with PayPal, I do not see it overtaking it. Same kind of thing with eBay and Yahoo! Auctions, IMO.

without competition, they will continue to do just enough to keep its users.

Woops! I got confused with "Google Merchant ID"

Either way, I think it will help to push PayPal to make improvements to stay on top, otherwise Google will do it a lot of damage.
