Is PayPal a secure method for receiving domain name sale payments? I know it's a bit different than domain escrow... I just want to be sure that if I was to accept payment via PayPal for domain sales that there would be no way for the buyer to do any sort of charge back after they are in possession of the domain.

Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks,

John

Yes, the buyer can initiate a chargeback @ paypal after they receive the domain. I recommend using escrow if the amount is $250 or more, and you don't know/trust the buyer.

Is using a service such as sedo.com a better all around way of selling domains? I was just on their site and see that they no only handle/promote sales but also include escrow and transfer service for free (only cost 10% commission).

I've been in Internet Publishing since 1996, but not much of a domainer. I have 200+ domains, some are pretty good. I'm just looking for the best, safest and most effective way to sell the domains.

PayPal seems good, but I don't think I would want to risk chargebacks on high value names. Maybe I'll do as you say and go with PayPal for the lower value domains.

PayPal is fine as long as you know the buyer, and as long as they have good feedback.

However if you don't, using PayPal isn't the best idea.

Although if you are buying from someone you don't know, and you are a reputable member, it may be possible to have them push you the domain first, and then you pay. I've bought a few times from members with 0 feedback and only a few posts - obviously it'd be stupid of me to pay first, then expect to receive the domains (etc). However doing it this was around (i.e. get the domains, and then pay) could be an adequate solution. As long as you, yourself, have a good feedback rating.
