Payments in 2 installments

Hi,

I need to have domain sold in two installments.

I have checked escrow.com but their domain holding service is only for amounts above 75k.

Did anyone else have a similar sale? Which service did you use?

The buyer is suggesting Escrow.com for first payment but how can I be assured that after the first payment, and consequent domain transfer, the buyer will pay the last installment?

Thanks,
tonecas

You could have a contract written up indicating the full price of the transaction and that 2 payments of x amount are to be made along with a deadline for each payment. Then both parties can sign the document to make it legal and it will all be in writing. Then a payment of the first installment plus the signature of the contract should show enough proof in court that a purchase has in fact been made and accepted for sure. :)

thanks snowbird.

I am not in the US and in either case I would even prefer to prevent of going to court in case of buyer not following the agreement.

i see this only as using a third party service that holds the domain so that both buyer and seller are secured, or having a contract like you said but keeping the domain in my hands until the final payment. i am not comfortable in letting the domain go even with a signed contract...
