When it comes to brandables, I’ve been leaning more toward patient retail pricing rather than rushing wholesale deals.

For those holding a curated portfolio, what’s your typical hold time before a retail sale happens?

  • 6–12 months?
  • 2–3 years?
  • Or do you view them as assets that can sit indefinitely until the right fit shows up?

I think newer investors often underestimate the patience needed, so I’d love to hear experiences from the community.

The average sell-through rate when it comes to end user sales is generally around 1% give or take.

Therefore, the average hold time is many years.

Unless you hustle to make sales or have some magic formula, there is no substitute for time.

Many new investors just have unrealistic expectations.

For a true brandable, i.e. a distinctive name, either creatively spelled or unusual word combination, I think it makes sense to look fresh at the name each renewal period. Is the niche getting stronger or weaker. Did I have any signals such as an inquiry or multiple visits to lander etc.

But ultimately it comes down to is renewing this the best possible use of my domain investing money.

Most names, as Brad notes just above, are very unlikely to sell in one year.

depending on the buyers and your Luck,in 2021,many guys sold meta related domains to Facebook, some of them even registered it just within one day and sold at high price.

In reality,There are still many guys sold their domains in short time although domain registrations of hand-pick.

Overall,Luck and right time are both very important because some guys can't sold out their domains even though they hold 10yrs or more.

IMO,I don't think sell domains need to take long time because it just depends on your domain qualities and your prices,The more higher quality of your domains the faster you can sell your domains in a way and the rests are prices consideration.

@Rick Schwartz covered this best. Plan to renew for at least 20 years, or don't buy it. Granted, AI is changing timelines now, but that has been a solid guideline thus far.
