Huge fan of the forum, have lurked for a while, but decided to jump into convos as I'm getting deeper into domains by the day.

I've been grabbing some really great gems (hence the name) from a mix of hand regs, expired names, auctions, etc.

Once I receive the name (paying anywhere from $7-$50), I'm always confused on best way to list / price?

1. I've done some with BIN via Afternic, but I'm always wondering...am I leaving money on the table? For example, if I list one at $1,995, and it's bought right away, could this actually have been a $5-10K sale? I just wonder if this is leaving meat on the bone. I also find it hard to really get a price that makes sense when every tool is all over the place, and a lot of times there really is not near comparable comps on Namebio, etc. I've heard some say 4-5x what GoDaddy shows as a starting point?

2. I hear make an offer is attractive, but I read that Afternic now handles this for you via their own brokers, so not sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing? Has anyone had recent success here?

3. I've never used DAN, but have an account, and eager to maybe do a BIN (same potential issue as #1), or make an offer, but have also read DAN will be merging into Afternic at some point this year, so I'm not sure if it's worth putting time into?

4. For my super brandable names that I feel could have fun/great logos, I'll try to submit to Atom.com for premium listings. I know the commission is high, but this seems like an ideal way to list the super brandable names for new startups/business ideas.

5. I use to make webpages, so I could easily just make my own page that has my email and the logo on it, but wondering if this is also hurting myself as this takes it out of the Afternic/GoDaddy listings completely. Maybe would work for an ultra premium that folks would just type in?

Thanks for hearing me out, appreciate you all. 🙏

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I'd say the more places you list your names the better.

List at AN, Dan, Sedo, Dynadot and anywhere else you can.

When considering a lander it completely down to personal preference really. I doubt the design of a landing page has much influence on whether a buyer clicks through or not. Personally I've just started using Atom landers and White Lable Marketplace and find them very good but namePros also have free landers you can use.

Pricing wise I'd say just price with what you'd be happy with. If you got a name for 50 bucks and you'd be happy selling it for 500 then that's your price. Sure you might have sold it for 5k but you'll never know so it's not worth your thought. You might have priced it at 5k and never sold it so you'd be 500 bucks out of pocket. Again you'll never know so...

Great insight. Thanks @D Haynes!

When you say to list at all 4, do you mean simultaneously, or just diversify the portfolio across all 4? I haven't tried Dynadot yet, will give it a try today. Thanks!

leaving money on the table?
Hi

if you ask more than it's worth and buyer walks, how much was left on the table?

for most names,
it's better to get the $1995 now and move on, than to get $0.

imo...

All at the same time. Some would advise to have BIN on one and Make Offer on the rest to avoid selling on more than one marketplace at once (meaning you'd have to not honour a sale on one) but realistically that'll probably never happen.

Using BIN will give you the best chance of selling your domains. I've seen some say use BIN for any domain you value under $5k, but use make offer for domains you value over $5k, which I think is pretty good advice. As you gain more experience selling names and learning about what sells and for how much, it'll get easier for you to feel confident in pricing your domains.

You'll want to list your names at Afternic and Sedo, and when possible, use a registrar that offers integration for Afternic Fast Transfer and/or Sedo MLS promotion.

Looks like Dan.com is shutting down creating new accounts there as they are about to begin their migration to Afternic.

Afternic landing pages work because buyers that aren't in the domain business recognize the GoDaddy brand that is shown on Afternic landers and thus they feel more confident in purchasing the domain. A fancy lander is great and probably helps a little bit, but not near as much as having the GoDaddy brand being displayed.

Awesome insight, and agree on all mentions. I think the more and more I sell, I'll get a rough idea on the ideal price points for specific type of names, but I have to remember it's always important to zoom out and simply look at how much I paid, and ideal / strong level ROI, rather than it's full possible potential, and also how much time is elasping. Money now is typically better than money later, assuming it's a similar amount.

I had an older DAN account, so recent the pw today, and playing around with it, but likely wont focus on it a ton since it may move/change shortly.

Totally agree on the AN landers, people know and feel confident seeing that GoDaddy logo front and center.

Good info from the posters above. And I just wouldn't bother with Dan at all since they'll be gone in less than a month. There are currently a lot of people trying to work out where to take their landers instead (me included!)...
