There has been a good number times when I would win the auction or the buyer has a BIN price, I paid for the domain, but the seller refuses to sell/transfer. (Financially, I'm not out any money since Sedo simply refunds me what I paid a couple of weeks later.) But I'm just curious, what would YOU do if this happens to you? In theory per the contract I can take legal action but I've never done so.

In one case the guy simply increased his bid price and his domain remained on the Sedo list.

Depends. If the seller lives nearby, you'd be surprised how effective it can be to have them wake up in the morning, find their children missing and find a note taped to their door to the effect that they'll be returned safely when the domain name is transferred.

But that might be a little extreme, depending on the value of the domain name. Start with their pets maybe.

so if he was able to increase his bid it was not a done deal, still at the negotiation stage

No what I meant was he increased his price a few weeks later.

It would be bad if you later find out you checked the wrong registrar and it was transferred all along. You'll then return the family members with gift cards for their trouble.

if he didn't complete the sale you should ask sedo why he's still allowed an account with them

It gets complicated if they decide they'd rather just stay with me. The last time this happened, the guy had to file a dispute with ICANN to get his wife back.

That's called reverse hijacking, I think.

Not worth my time but I just checked now and he's no longer there. I paid almost $4k (then refunded) for it too, was very niche, wasn't short or brandable, so in the long run it was actually for the best.

Interesting that someone will not take 4k. Must be a very good domain!?

Great! It seems to have a meaning like "black swamp" too.

Thanks for your insight!:xf.smile:
The "black swamp" market will rebound one of these days! ;)

People get away with this kind of thing at all the major marketplaces.

Nothing new here.

It never changes and nothing is ever done about it.
