I recently came across a domain name which I thought decent IMO (but I'm a newb). The .com is registered as well as the .net, .org is not, .us is not, and .biz is not.

Would it even be worth it to reg the .org or others?

Haha, I have the same idea with you.
So I registered a hundred of domain with .org
I hope I can get some revenue by selling them.

I own several .org domain names, including my personal site (http://www.stevecastle.org).

I think that they're worth it.

But I have to say .com is much hotter than .org

It all depends on the keywords and if they suit the extension.

However, I've generally have good success with .org domains and will generally go for them if the .com and .net are taken.

My highest domain sale to date has been a .org.

You just need to find the right keywords for the extension and you will get almost as much re-routed traffic as the .net does.

How high was it if i may ask?
(I think its still better to invest in .com's) IMO

Okay, so what about this possibility with this .org. Let say that this domain contains a huge keyword with two other letters that is not a huge keyword? Take this for example where "x" is the huge keyword and "y" is the non exsisting keyword. xxxxxxyy.org. How would that be? Would those two odd letters just trash the worth of the name?

yes trash unless an obvious brand concept.
.org sometimes works as an alternative extension and sometimes it doesn't...

For ORG Key Words play a major role IMO

I keep a lot of .org's ( 3 letter in particular ) in my portfolio, partly because I came into the game too late to make big plays in .com , but have been able to afford (And to hand register..) some "choice" :imho: .org's .
No huge sales to date, but as little as 2 years ago 3 letter .org's were going for $10-$60 for decent letters, now you can't get crappy letters for less than $150 , $600 or more for "decent" letters.

high $xxx.

Like I said, it all depends on the availability of the keywords and the marketability/branding potential of the domain ;)
