I think it is max 30 per minute.

I have a desktop scanner but that can't get around the timeouts for .org - the limit is just too low to use proxies etc. I think for .org the limit is 30/minute, one per 2 seconds.

You can use a registrar bulk availabily checker to get around the limit. Name.com and GoDaddy both have a nice bulk availability check tool, allowing you to scan lists of 500-1000 domains at a time.

It's posted on their site I believe, 50 per minute through their online web tool or 4 per minute using the whois protocol.

Total domains, not individual. So no, you couldn't do 25 domains per 2 seconds.

It's two different things. The zone files contain the list of active domains that have at least one nameservers. The only information you will get from the zone file is the domains and associated name servers.

If you were a registrar, maybe you could get your IP address whitelisted.

whois servers question

It is noteworthy that the various whois servers there are little difference in their database dropped domains. I talk about for GTLD com and net domains. Does whois server contains complete and accurate database of dropped domains for com and net GTLD? (Servers)
I have a question on this link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whois
What is the relation between the whois server whois.iana.org and name servers below.
