.org PENDINGDELETE, but expiration date is 2013?

Hi All,

Google could not answer this one, so I ask for your knowledge.

The info below is straight from TuCows' whois seach:

Last Updated On:19-Sep-2012 05:02:31 UTC
Expiration Date:09-Aug-2013 10:40:24 UTC
Sponsoring Registrar:Tucows Inc.
Status:HOLD
Status : PENDINGDELETE

The domain is in PENDINGDELETE status, and yet the expiration date is August 2013.

Does this mean that the registrant renewed the domain in some sort of grace period, or is the 2013 date false?

Expired domains are typically autorenewed at registry level, regardless of whether the registrar (and the customer) has actually paid for renewal.

Domains can also drop early sometimes, for example for legal reasons.

So what you're saying is pendingdelete status does not necessarily mean the domain will become available, right?

I'm just trying to determine whether or not I should backorder the domain.

Check the whois at the registry (pir.org) and tell us what you see.

Rather, I see the following data:

domaintools.com says it expired, and namejet reads "Time Left: 10/24/2012 5:00 AM."

This is the first instance I've seen of a domain in pendingdelete status AND with an expiration date of the following year...
