Hi,

I'm putting together YADDLS  (Yet Another Deleted Domain Site) as a development project.

Name I'm considering: DumpedSite or DumpedSites .com (I've registered both)

Opinion on name?
Singular vs. plural? (I'm leaning to the plural) which sounds better if at all?

Thanks

.US domains.US domains
DumpedSites sounds pretty well, i would go for the plural

Well since you have registered both why not develop on one of the names and just have the other redirect to which version you prefer.

I would do that. I want one as the primary name, the one that the site is known by, how the mass of visitors :hehe: would refer to the site, and have the secondary name just as a backup so I don't have to worry about someone buying that name and then asking me for a hefty ransom  Like having youtubes.com or twitters.com

i like the plural better in this case since domainers are after more than just one site/name typically.

I prefer the plural too...

Personally, I dont' like the word "dumped" as it has a negative connotation. People Drop, don't renew, or let expire, but in my opinion "dumped" means someone actively and purposely ditched it. I just can't think of many positive uses of the word dump. To me it sort of indicates it has no value.

From Wiktionary:
dump (plural dumps)

1. A place where waste or garbage is left; a ground or place for dumping ashes, refuse, etc.

A toxic waste dump.

This place is a dump
Take this to the dump
I'm going to take a dump
I'm going to dump this stock
Garbage trucks go to the dump (even the garbage industry doesn't call them dumps any more, but use the word landfill.

Not trying to be negative toward your choice, but just trying to point out my first thoughts when I hear the name. I think a more postive but longer name might be a better choice. :imho:

However, if you like it, the plural is better since I assume you plan on having more than one listing.

Like the plural, but don't fancy 'dump'

I understand that some would find the word dumpedsites having negative connotations.

Personally, I liked the play on words, i.e dumpedsites ~= dump sites , a catchy name in my own mind  , jmho

thanks again :)

Hi,

Yes it can have a negative connotation especially when used as a Noun
as in most of the examples you provided.

But Dump is also used as a Verb.

Here's what Answer.com offers up when dump is used as a verb (edited):

v., dumped, dump·ing, dumps.

  • To release or throw down in a large mass
  • To get rid of; discard
  • To place...on the market in large quantities and at a low price

Doesn't seem quite so bad now, does it?

Much better choice in my opinion :)

Like some of the previous posters, I too saw a negative connotation from the word "dump".

Good luck with the site!
