they are building a listings directory based on using "town/city/area - opendi.com" domain names for their sub directories, it seems..
@GravityEleven, so I am curious about this, what is their rational?
I checked few of names with openid.....
san-jose-opendi.com
state-tennessee-opendi.com
state-north-dakota-opendi.com
state-nebraska-opendi.com
stockton-ca-opendi.com
rockville-md-opendi.com
clearwater-fl-opendi.com
Some of the patterns of registered names are
state-<statename>-opendi.com or
<cityname>-opendi or
<cityname>-<state-abbr>-opendi.com
This way even for just North America, the names would be in hundreds of thousands, if they were to cover all cities/towns! If the company decides to do the same for every country they cater to, some registrar is going to be very happy.
Would it not be better to have
<cityname>.<state>.opendi.com or
opendi.com/<state>/<cityname>
format?
Guess Geo EMD are still in vogue
I have added a reminder in calender to see if these domains will be renewed next year!
This makes a very interesting case study for SEO.
Suggestion to anyone thinking of registering such domains, I hope you don't. (TM!)
This question is for trying to understand why so many .com registrations with one common word are being registered, and what is the benefit from it.
