What do you think of the sale method of "send me your offers!" or "taking offers" or "offers" or anything similar that asks you to submit an offer without a buy-it-now price?

I call it fishing. I am more apt to buy from someone who tells me a firm price or at the very least a price range. As a matter of fact, when I buy I pay fast and get the transaction completed as soon as possible. When I look to buy, I go straight for the threads that have pricetags on their domains and pass up the ones who don't have prices. I'm not into making offers just because someone wants to siphon my wallet. Either the seller knows what the domain is worth and wants to sell or he/she does not.

Do you have a preference? Are you one of the sellers who says "accepting offers!" or similar? If you are one of those sellers, perhaps you can give your side of why you do this. "Offers" are often times just a time-waster. If someone is truly looking to sell, they'll list a pricetag with their domain. If not, no biggie--but I see a lot of no-replies to threads when people start their sale like this. If you are one of those sellers who says something like: "accepting offers", have you tried to use the pricetag method? How have you found each to work and which one is better than the other to you?

Again, personally, I pass up all threads that ask for "offers"--I'd much rather get it on with purchasing than having someone drag on an invisible price point that is blind to the buyer.

Your thoughts?

9 times out of 10 if you ask for offers you get PMed asking "how much for...." anyway and then I'll always give a price out. When you're selling more than a few domains it takes a time to go through each one and decide on a price so I'm usually lazy and ask for offers.

Interesting thought though - might try pricing all the names in my sales thread in a few days and see if I get any more interest..

I make a point to put prices on everything, even if I list 200 domains.

Since I hate seeing "make offer" threads.

BUT - There are some rare situations that I will post a name or some names with 'make offer' .. just to see what interest there is.

Personally I hate offers and am usually one of those people who PMs "how much?". Most sellers usually respond with some ridiculous price.

I agree it would help everyone if all domains were priced, even if it was just "high $xxx" or "mid $xx". Just so we could get an idea of what the seller wants for it. Although you have to take into consideration the fact that it's near impossible to get enough (or any) appraisals in the appraisal section.

Overall, I think it would be better if sellers gave a price range if they don't have an exact price rather than expecting NP to be full of psychics. :)

I put prices on my domains for sale as a general rule. However, I'm always open to offers. I guess it puts a cap on the offers I could receive, but I think it helps me sell more domains.

This morning I went looking to buy and it seemed like half the sale threads were "make offer"...makes for a boring jaunt through the sales forum. If names were priced, names would sell faster...just my opinion.

Seem to be getting more of a response with prices so think it's good for the seller as well as the buyer..

I agree that prices tend to do better because a lot of people are reluctant to offer. At the same time, though, I do occasionally make offers if I think the domain is worth it or I'm hoping to get a bargain.

I think the idea behind placing offers only is not so much laziness as it is hoping that person will come along with a lot of money and give you some sort of exorbitant offer that you can retire on.

I find it hard to "make an offer" with no clue as to a ballpark price. So it's deffinately better to put a price on the domains, or at least hint at how much you're looking for.
I think selling a domain with no hint of the price will exclude a lot of people who may otherwise be interested.

Whenever I put out "make an offer," it's on a domain/site that I just want to see the interest, or Im not sure of what it could pull down. I'd rather not lowball myself and put a low offer when someone would have paid more - and just the opposite, I wouldn't go over the top with it either.

I also believe having a range as someone said earlier, low/mid/high $xx or $xxx, etc. would be the best way to have make offer threads be more attractive for buyers. Sometimes it's hard to think of an exact price after you put a lot of work into it, and thus offering a range would be more appropriate so you can gauge interest and sell accordingly.
