Offered $25 for a LLL.com?

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
You've heard it right folks, $25 for a LLL.com (and other domains) is the going rate these days--at least according to a BuyDomains representative. Here's my correspondence:

Their email to me:
We are prepared to offer you $25 for the following domains:
RUJ.com
Repel.net
bestbeerclub.com
BetterComps.com
deerseason.net
My reply:
You're joking, right?
Their reply:
No – I’m not sure I’m following your email though.

Assume you saw our offer?

Pete
My reply:
My snyde remark should be interpretted as me conveying my shocking disbelief. Your offer, a paultry sum, for a package of domains (containing a LLL.com) for $25! Your company appears to be reputable on the outside, but you are treating me like a complete idiot.

I've been around the domaining business for years... Please treat me like it. Just an FYI: RUJ.com went for upwards of $5600 at Snapnames in the last year. Ask your buddy SaggyDimes about it--he was probably bidding on it as well.

You can consider my long-winded answer as a rejection of your offer.

If you would like to reoffer on any of the domains, please feel free to do so.

So, if you have a LLL.com that you want to sell for $25, just contact BuyDomains and they may oblige.

Out of curiosity what makes you think that the hyphenated version would? I don't get how that is possible?

Just common sense really, with numbers on that scale, 500,000 + a month some would surely add the hyphen. I have other domains both with and without the hyphen, and the hyphen version always receives a small percentage of traffic.

BuyDomains - Nothing but a bunch of liars and cheats.

Check this out. http://tipsurf.seeq.com/seeq/index.jsp?portal_id=1&domain=tipsurf.com&keyword=tip&referrer=

TipSurf.com is on Sedos high traffic list apparently receiving 17,423 hits a day with no page rank or search engine position.

I regged Tip-Surf.com just to proove that their traffic was B.S. It stands to reason that if a site receives 522,716 hits a month the hyphenated version would receive at least a little traffic. Not one hit.

It also appears to me there is an unhealthy cosy relationship between Buy Domains and Sedo, maybe that is why Sedo lets them get away with with such false traffic stats.

I think BD is idiotic for their offer to Fonz. However please use words wisely. They are not stealing domains from anyone. Their business model might seem very unethical to some but if they do legitimate transasctions for way below market cost, that is actually good business. I assume it is automatically their fault everytime someone sells a domain for less than they should right?

:td:

i didnt say they were stealing domains, i said ''practically stealing''.

If they offer $25, I bet they've bought at least one before at that price... poor guy.
I'll top all of your offers and offer 4 figures! $1,000 :) Paypal ready to go. Hehe. I love the $60 offers on sedo I get for a lll.com when I just list a name before going back to change it's minimum offer.

Why change the min. offer? The more bids the better... haha. (people like to sort by bids)

You sell names to buydomains.com?
LOL. They offer pennies and ask for a million. That's their slogan.

LOL. that's hilarious.

Oh well. Fonzie, you contacted them so I would have expected no less to be honest (or should I say "no more" - depends on how you look at it, i guess).

I always sort by bids or traffic, The default 'Quality' is awful.

I'm also sure that they have people reading these forums to keep a track on the industry so I'd like to see them justify themselves on here please.
At this point, I don't expect anyone from BD to reply in this thread. I know a couple different people have contacted them by phone and email, even leaving the information and forum link with their General Manager, so if they had anything to say on the topic, I'm sure they would have spoken up by now.

It would seem their $25 offer was not a mistake or typo.

Yes. Here's Pete Lamson's response:

Many thanks for your note Jon, all the best to you.

FYI: Pete has sent me an email and is offering to chat about the offer. I'll pass along how the conversation goes. We'll see if BuyDomains is a professional company or just a bunch of amatuers...

Wow guy, that's just embarassing....
I'd love to see what the response is...

"Well we just thought your aunt died & gave some idiot nephew control of her domains... We thought giving you bus fare might be ok, but obviously this wasn't the case.... Sorry.....

How about $200? & we send you the new Playstation 3 straight from Japan the week it comes out.. We got connections you know...

I'm going to give the gentleman a chance to explain himself. He gave me his office #, so I'll give him a ring when I have a few spare minutes in the next few days--he didn't seem to want to talk over email anymore.

I can't wait to hear his logic on this one in a verbal conversation. Please keep us posted Fonzie.

They just offered me $25 for html.info, wyoming.info, etc...

Understood.

Not knowing traffic for a .info name increase resale risk.

We are prepared to offer you $25 apiece for each name list below.

The people they would be able to fleece names from at those prices would have to be so clueless as to not know what a domain name is. Hell, if they could make RESPECTABLE lowball offers, I'm sure they'd probably have a lot more success at getting names they could make a profit on. I can't imagine how few of names they would be buying sending offers like those. Having emailed owners of great quality names myself, it seems as most if not all of them know more or less what their name is worth and quote end-user pricing even.

Ok, that's insane.

But wait.... it's TOO insane. There must be a method to their madness.

These $25 offers on RUJ.com, HTML.info, Wyoming.info (btw, *state* .info domains are among the hardest categories of .info to get)... these offers can't be serious. They are silly, and seemingly, insults... but there must be something else here.

Either it's their idea of starting-low negotiation, taken to the extreme...

Or, somebody is just having fun at our expense.

Or, maybe they don't like domainers. Maybe they consider themselves.. above that.

I don't know. But it's got to be something odd. These offers are beyond silly.

I've done that before. But not with a starting price of $25.

They were the first bidders on my ebay auction for Hi.net ( currently running through to August 5th ;) ) at $24.99

If it were a snap drop they were willing to pay $120,000 but seeing as it wasn't :yell:
JP-I thought I opened up with a $1k bid for it. Did you have a previous listing that you took down?
