Non-Paying Buyer at Sedo

I recently sold a domain via sedo and the buyer didn't pay. Sedo sent me the contact details for the buyer in order for me to take action against them.

What action should I take? Should I contact him directly and see if I can still sell it to him or should I just let the issue go and move on with my life and relist the name?

Thank you

You can try to contact them. At least they will know they are no longer anonymous.

I'd try contacting them but there really is nothing you can do if the person refuses to pay up?

Actually, thats not true. He can pursue legal matters, as he did enter into a binding contract, but odds are that the domain name didnt sell in a price range that makes it worth it.

Personally, I would contact them to remind them of the legally binding contract. If that "bluff" doenst work - move on.

Maybe a thread should be dedicated listing the details of non-paying buyers?

This seems to happen a lot lately over at Sedo.
Sedo is also doing s**t against it.

They should at least let us post our domain for auction again OR even let us offer the domain to the second highest bidder.

Sedo sucks...

these flaky buyers are a cost of doing business on such a large scale platform. don't let it get to you.

As far as Im concerned there is no reason for this, if you bid on a name and win you should have to pay or get banned. The contract is very clear so why allow it to be broke. If I owned Sedo thats how I would run the ship. They act/look all pro but how can anyone take Sedo seriously when they do nothing to bs bidders.

That's actually not a bad idea, maybe we will see some repeat non-payers :)

Simply post the buyers details on all the forums under the warning sections.

Oh- and when you have done it at all the forums ensure the "buyer" is sent all the links.

This is really incedible. The worst about it is that Sedo takes no kind of measures at all against non payers. I mean, I don't expect them to take legal action, but the least they could do is to ban them from the Sedo platform. I blogged about this some time ago: Domain contracts at SEDO worth nothing

Domain: Ground.com

Buyer:
Gutierrez Group, LLC.
Armando Gutierrez Jr

Valid contract dated 5/6/2008

It baffles me as to why people bid at sedo and then don't pay up!
Some people seem to have no ethics at all..... Personally, I have never bid on a domain that I don't have the funds immediately available for and I pay as soon as possible after the auction.

That is how I do business and expect others to do the same, especially other domainers. Sadly, I have found that the problems I have had at sedo with non or late payment have mainly been with others in this business.

Great thread. It reminded me of a non paying buyer that caused me great problems (had 2 negotiations in the meantime for my domain which I cancelled). He did not pay for 4 months, and sedo cancelled the negotiation (it was quite a big sum of money).

Now I looked into his data (he is German) and did a bit of research, and emailed him. Will even ask a lawyer to email him and why not pursue the matter further.

This particular non paying buyer caused so much problems for me. I had two $x.xxx offers for my domain at sedo in the same time, I accepted his, and the other two negotiations were automatically cancelled.

PS: I found his site and he is a domain consultant :)

Ive created a thread in the Warnings section for everyone to post non-payers who fail to honour their legally binding contract

Last night, inspired by this thread I tracked one of the non paying buyers from Sedo.

He phoned me recently and said his account was hacked and sedo reinstalled his account, and he did not made the offer.

These kind of possible situations made me hesitant to list names in public. Try contacting the non paying buyer first.

If this is true (and my gut feeling says it is) Sedo is at fault for many many things. But I wait for their answer, and will continue this later.

But indeed if it is, Sedo is at VERY BIG fault. After I accepted the high $x.xxx offer they automatically cancelled two other low-mid $x.xxx offers, and they made me wait for 3 months before cancelling the negotiations, during which I received an end user inquiry for the name.

The guy who did not pay seemed honest, and hacking accounts at Sedo are not that rare unfortunately.

So, until further I will hesitate to post any names in a public forum (even this particular sale messed up all my domain strategy).
