You need to have the nameservers changed to the parking company's. You will find the names on the company's site. Sedo's is NS1.SedoParking.com and NS2.SedoParking.com; others will look something like that too.

Once your nameservers are changed, it can take up to 72 hours for them to update. Most of the time it takes less than a few hours.

Now when you get visitors they should be recorded and you will see that on your log any where from a few minutes to a few hours later. Same thing with if they click an ad.

Depending on the name, will depend on if and how much traffic you will get. Most traffic is type in, typo, back link, or search engine.

Even if its brand new, it could have some old links and such. This has happened with some of mine, if it once was a site. Yes, for the most part you will have type in traffic or typo traffic if its a mispelled domain. If you don't mind me asking, whats the domain in question?

i realise that - so i must make a simple site that is picked up by search engines , as hyphen words are search engine friendly?

Yes. The only way you will get any real traffic will be to develop a mini-site and have it indexed. Again, unless there was traffic going to it before you got the domains.

Good luck
