Lately there have been many sites popping up selling domains and the one thing that most of them have in common is really bad logos.

Personally I think having a bad logo is worse than having no logo. Bad logos make names look cheap in my opinion.

    What are your thoughts?

    Yes! I agree.

Domain without logo is far better than domain with bad logo.

Generally logos without site development are only helpful with mass window shopping brandable domains (not talking 4L but longer). The logo is only a 'show case" where buyers imagine what the domain looks like in the logo they really want, and compare to others.

Bad logos are really just a font that is barely manipulated and often paired up with a generic shaped object.

You can never pre-pair up even an 'expensive' logo to a sophisticated endusers likes. So a "5er" logo has zero chance

Here are my thought..since I am a visual person, not really bothered by a bad logo

Also maybe just maybe..a person with a bad logo (usually from free logo maker) might be desperate to sell...can't afford to hire a "logo designer"

What bothers me..is bad spelling and or grammar!

I think that for a strong EMD the logo will not do a big difference, but for brandables it's important. Also, logo's are almost as subjective as brandables, I can show 4 different logos for the same name and I can bet that some will say that one of them it's the worst and others will choose another one. Also, I have some personal experience. I have tested to see how people react at the same names with different logos. I have used facebook marketing campaigns to test some names and logos. One average brandable, two different logos, the same audience and the same budget: one had 785 likes and the other 93, so different rection to the same name. I can bet that if I would try the same name without any logo, it would not get even 10 likes.

A good domain will sell itself without a logo.

    Agreed. It's an instant turn-off. :xf.sick:

Better to use a simple stylized font instead. IMO.

Great topic @hookbox On my ghetto landers, I use cooltext.com to make word art, just so my lander doesn't look so bare. I do it quick and sometimes it's mediocre and I wonder if it would be better to leave it out. Or I use a labeled for reuse pic or both. My whole setup is supposed to be temporary while I figure out a better way, less time consuming.

This topic is mainly for brandables. EMDs, generics etc....don't need logos.

In my opinion logos have the ability to do many things. A bad logo makes a great domain look bad and a great logo makes a bad domain look great.

I believe that the logo is far more important than we can ever imagine. Those that buy brandables in the tech field understand good design and are very visual. Car design, home design, watch design etc......they avidly follow these categories and know the difference between good and bad design. Logos are no different and that first impression could be what makes or breaks the sale. I believe it's better to have no logo then a bad logo just for this reason.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, impression is everything and if you do use a logo make sure it doesn't take anything away from the name.

A bad logo cheapens whatever you're selling.

Most of the domains I've sold over the last 13 years have been in the 1-10k range with a few below and a few well above that amount. If they can afford a premium domain they either have a graphic designer they already use or they are able to afford one and the odds of them using the provided logo is slim. Personally I have a handful of people that do work for me and their pricing is very low x-xxx for the quality of work they deliver.

Buyers have their own creation concept, generally do not need to provide them with the LOGO, my domain name with LOGO are for my own use.For example, I used to display the domain name website: GOODDOMAIN. TOP will do the LOGO with the font color.

Agree, but only for brandable domains listed on brandable seller sites, or your own site.

Otherwise a logo is not needed.

Keep in mind - end users don't see a logo at Afternic, Sedo and most marketplaces.

They just see the name, that's all.

Nor do they see a logo when checking the whois.

Buyers don't buy a domain with a logo because they want to use that logo but it does help them to visualize how the name would look as a brand. I agree that most toss the logo to the side and create a new one.

The branding/packaging of any item is the difference between a $5 product and a $50 product. Both items are produced in China for probably the same cost but how the product is perceived by the buyer is what makes the difference in the pricing.

Obviously higher quality brandables will sell regardless at some point in time but the average brandable in the $1,000-$3,000 range needs all the help it can get because the competition is getting fierce. Many more names available then there are buyers. There are tons of brandables to choose from so helping the buyer visualize the name on a business card or website is definitely a huge positive in selling any name.

If I'm putting together a holding page, then I usually create a simple text banner of the domain name using flaming text. I think it makes the page look better, and it only takes a minute or so. The advantage of using a holding page is that it giives you an idea of the traffic.

I doubt if the page makes any difference to the price, but the traffic stats might.

i display my brandables with logos as it helps the buyer visualize how their brand could work. I have made various sales where the buyer also asked for the logo files as well as they liked the logo concept or the way the name looked.

I have sold brandables with good logos and with bad logos, sometimes having a good logo can sway the buyer to make a choice over another domain name. With bad logos if the buyer likes the name they will buy it anyway, i don't charge the buyer any additional amount for logos so its up to them.

If you want to display your brandable domain names in a portfolio i think it helps showing a logo. If you cant get a good logo you can just make one with free fonts and decent color matches.

Any brandable marketplace should have a domain logo for visualization. I love logos and include them, any chance I get. I think a good simple logo can help a buyer visualize usage. I think a bad logo doesn't really have any effect on someone buying a premium domain, as they will most likely have their own ideas on what their companies brand should be. It's just to create interest! BrandBucket seems to be doing pretty well utilizing logos in their marketplace, and most of theirs are supergeneric! To each his own I say, but I love seeing a great logo with a domain name pitch!

I make a lot of logos for almost all of my domains that is worth it, not only for brendables.
For me as an artist it is advantage. I do it very fast, reason sometimes not perfect.
10-30min each sometimes more. What do you think? Looks cheap?

I can't see the mistake in the first one but I also can't see any fireworks in the second one, just the night sky :)

As for the third one ... I'd add some tits in there just to enhance the user experience :)
